Why would someone be embarrassed that their coins got lost or stolen? There's no inside information here. The mistake was not having insurance (which he admitted to and no reason to pile on) but aside from that he did the right thing which isn't a secret.

You do a trace with the shipping company and in this case USPS and can go to your local one or call the one it was last seen at then go to the Postal Inspectors. There's no magic insider answer here.

I would say to not put CAC on the label but express mail is perfectly fine and sometimes there's just bad luck

Thanks. Yeah I contacted Doug Davis with them yesterday. I know he can get the word out far and wide. Appreciate it.

This was suggested to me when speaking with an insurance agent. Like, write "J. Albanese" when shipping to CAC, or "Professional CG Service" when shipping to PCGS, etc. He said the thieves know these companies. But hopefully it'll turn up and it isn't stolen after all. Anyway, thanks for the supportive words.

I would encourage not using PCGS or CAC and using a name instead, same with GC or Heritage etc. You can put almost anything in the name part and it's a little more discrete

I do hope the package is just lost for the record

Thank you so much. Dumb decision by me, but I've played with fire for too long. Never again.

It happens. I've had a couple international ones go missing for a bit this year that turned up months later. Hopefully it'd be faster but you did the right moves to figure it out and really could just check on it sometimes to see.

About how long ago was that if I may ask? He moved to Colorado springs at first .
In fact for awhile he had a very nice looking gal in her mid 30's who lived in the same apartment complex.
Sne was in the military , and im guessing redeployed causing the relationship to end.
He did send me photo of them....and my thoughts were wow Angelo youre doing quite well!
We did communicate when he moved up to Denver.
Thats why when I discovered I was going there for our yearly sales meeting him and I could have dinner.
Like I posted he said that his girl friend and him were going to Vegas, and had he known sooner he could of made plans to go later so we could meet.
I apologize John truly didn't mean to hijack the thread but Jello was one of my first friends here on CT.
And I know quite a few members like him alot.
I feel bad that I didn't take the time to stay in touch....life happens and you start down another road ,finding yourself going away from old friends.
Jello was a US Army lifer...I know he was in Nam he did share some photos of a younger Jello in the jungle.
He also fought in South America Nicaragua back in the 80's before he retired.
Got married had a son and worked for Goodyear tires.
That job damn near killed him in an work place accident.
He was pulled into a tire making machine damn near broke ever bone in his body.
I hope to god that Fret is wrong....but Jello just know that we are still talking about you!
And I feel blessed to have you as a friend, and thank you for your service to our country!

I'd go with something like "Comprehensive Stool Analysis". ;P

That really sucks, CBD, I hope they turn up.

I hope they turn up. Maybe some heat on the post office will help. I get it. I’m often uninsured or underinsured too. Me it was 2 fairly common Morgan dollars that I’d sold for $275 that never showed. I need to get private insurance myself

Should hit all collector forums to BOLO for them, facebook, twitter, whatever you got, hit it all, and you should report it to police with cert numbers and pictures, they have means of checking pawn shops and craigslist and all that jazz, can also turn up in drug dealer busts too. it may not have even made it out of your city before disappearing and may turn up nearby really, you never know.

you can also report it here:
    Numismatic Crime Information Center
    http://numismaticcrimes.org/

If people care to check, like nationwide coin shops, then they will also know about it and if it turns up and can alert if they see it. really nobody wants to buy something stolen, but the reality is, if it's not reported stolen and notice hard to find, then it may go unnoticed and pass from hand to hand or coin shop to coin shop for a long time undetected.

Technology is useful. everyone is connected. if you search for instance any of the slab numbers listed here on this guys report on NCIC you will find he's got notices on forums, facebook, UScoin news, Coin week, collectors com. each coin will get hits to them being stolen if someone checks the slab numbers on the internet. so this ups the chances of recovery. And he reported his missing Aug 31st, 202. it's pretty fast response to get a BOLO out to people that care to know and try to help.
    http://numismaticcrimes.org/2020/08/31/usps-theft-boston-ma/

Also if any of them are PCGS gold shield, they should be notified to BOLO in case someone resubmits them, especially if you have the trueview pictures on them too, even cracked out they can compare to yours and recover it.
they could send them somewhere else like NGC of course, but cover your bases is always best for best chances of them coming back to you.

Lost in the mail, sellers pics. Tracking showed "out for delivery" in december of 2018, hasn't been seen since. I made such a stink about it with the local post office that the Supervisor for the branch paid me the price of it, probably just to make me go away, but at least i didn't make the seller eat the loss.

I sold a coin about three weeks ago. The package arrived, opened sans coin. This has been my only experience with a coin not making it to it's destination so I consider myself lucky. I had to refund the buyer but it was only a $45 loss, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

my loss wasn't as much as yours, but i understand the feeling. for a year i scoured local craigslist and facebook marketplace listings with the intention of going to meet whoever was trying to sell my half dollar, and doing unpleasant things to them.

Actually, I just looked it up and it was back in 2015, he told me about his Son being in a band and he also had another relative who played music as well, but I can't remember who it was. I hope I'm wrong, but last message I sent him went unanswered and I know for a fact he was going through hell with his health issues from the last conversation I had with him. At the time many people were checking in on him as things got really rough for him.

John, have you gone in person to your local Post Office and talked to the head person? I had a similar situation, but not a coin, and after filing all of the loss forms etc. I waited two months and kept getting emails saying they are still working on it. Fed up, I went in person, which as you know is a real pain for me, and the supervisor found the package, the name of the person that signed for it, the GPS coordinates and a picture of the package! All in 15 minutes! The "Proof of Delivery" was obviously for the wrong package and I was credited for the loss.
Good luck and keep us informed.

USPS offers assistance with express and/or Priority Mail. There is also a mail order number on the package. If the package was delivered they are no longer responsible to the patron. Have you asked your USPS for help locating the package, they have helped me when I was in need of assistance. Good luck

What a bummer! My deepest sympathies. Maybe they will turn up. Several years ago a barber half that I purchased ‘disappeared’ while in the postal system. There was tracking that showed it arrived at a sorting facility but didn’t leave. After several weeks I sent an email to the postal authorities notifying them of my displeasure. I heard nothing in response so dropped it because it wasn’t a big bucks item. Eight months later it arrived. I was shocked.
As for lost or stolen coins, in 1982 I purchased an XF 1882 Coronet Head Eagle. Two years ago I inventoried my safety deposit box and it was missing. The safety deposit box insurance company refused my claim saying it was an “unexplained loss.”
