I don't know if this exists anywhere else on CoinTalk, but I recently had a package get lost or stolen on the way to CAC. It was a USPS Express Mail package. It was not insured, (I was in talks with an agent for private insurance, but didn't get the forms turned before the package was lost or stolen). Anyway, here are the coins. I have pics of 4 of them. The large cent is tied for 2nd finest known and should be easy to locate if it ever turns up again.

Feel free to post your lost or stolen coins here. We as a Numismatic community might run across them one day!

Its a good thing you made a record of the slab numbers as well images.
I would also post at shows should they ever open again.
Of course coins can be busted out of a slab, but I am one who believes that a 10 meg pic has enough details to ID a raw coin.
Sorry John it does suck....hopefully some will surface.

I recall Jello telling me a story of his ebay days ,where he sold a gold coin ,and the buyer said he never recieved. Well long story short e bay refunded the buyer, Jello ate the loss..
However Jello told me I knew it would surface, as he kept all the paperwork, images etc...
Jello told me every morning for almost 3 years he go on ebay and look for the coin.
As the buyer in fact did receive it,and as usual ebay judement was for the buyer.
And 1 morning bingo the buyer must of tired of the coin, and as luck has it...he posted it for sale on ebay!
Now it still was a burden of proof..that was another long drawn out mess, but he did recover the loss.
I miss my old buddy Jello was a good friend ,as well versed in the hobby.
My last business trip to Denver we missed meeting up as he had met a lady ,and as luck have it they were not in town durring my trip.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    Did you have tracking info?

    Did you contact USPS?

Do you have collection insurance? (some policies through people like Hugh Wood cover coins in transit, such as your package)

Have you contacted these folks: http://numismaticcrimes.org/

At least your 3x 1833 MS-66s weren't in that package.....

With values that high, why didn't you ship Registered?

@Paddy54 whatever happened to Jello? I remember him posting about having a lot of medical issues. I hope things have gone ok and he is just off living and loving life...

I have been working with the USPS. Contacted the postal inspector by phone, but they cannot find it. I did not have insurance. I was in the middle of filling out my paperwork for private insurance when this happened. And it was not insured. Yes, I was foolish about that and now I am paying the price. Lesson learned. But the point of this post was mainly to have folks be on the lookout for my coins and post their own lost or stolen coins.

Those are being handled by John Brush at DLRC. I knew better than to risk sending those around the country on my own. His private insurance covers them to his office, to PCGS, to CAC, and everywhere in between. I saw recently where he mailed off an express mail package from VA Beach that was lost or stolen. An MS65 Trade Dollar. But his insurance covers it.

I did call him right before my trip out about 2 years ago now. He and his new girl friend were going to Vegas for a vacation.
We had hoped to meet in Denver but the dates got confused and other than a phone conversation we never did.
Of course life got busy for me us loosing Dad and mon in this 2 year time frame , my travel for business,etc...we have lost touch...I still have him in the phone...I may just give him a shout out soon.
He was a good friend and he and I always had long phone conversations on coins and other things...
I hope he's well and happy, as he did have some health concerns ,that seemed to get better after he moved to Colorado.
I know he had a lot of friends here...and was quite likeable , he served his country in Nam as well other hell holes...and had a book of cool stories.
Perhasp you know what they say speak of the devil....or say his name 3 x's oh waite thats Beetlejuice.

Unfortunately, I think he passed onward. Last I had a conversation with him, he was barely hanging on, going to the Vet Hosp and going through some heavy duty treatments etc. I miss him as well, he was a really nice guy, he knew about a ton of stuff and was great talking to as well! He's definitely missed, in fact I was thinking about him a couple of weeks ago...

I’ll keep an eye out John. Those seated halves are the sort of thing I collect, saving the images on my phone to check in the future if I come across them.

I really feel for you, man, this sucks.

The problem is, I've never been through this myself, so I can't help much.

And, I suspect that many people who've been through this might be hesitant to admit it or share details.

Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to get a whole lot of useful responses. Sorry.

Well if it's because folks are embarrassed for not insuring packages, that's just stupid. Sure, it's my fault. I own that. But heck, I'm gonna look for them to hit the market again some day. And I would certainly want other dealers and collectors to know if a stolen coin came across their desk. All I want is to share my missing coins with y'all and open it up for others to do the same, if they want. You never know... if they were stolen, they could show up one day. Especially if a copper buff were to locate that 1798 AU55 cent. It's a condition census coin. Tied for 2nd finest for the variety and has a unique look. Now, if they are just lost or ended up in a trash can, then yeah, this is pointless. But I figured I'd give it a try and see if others wanted to do the same.

While some might be embarrassed and not post, the sum of coins in your post is $10k+. There are potential legal issues around sums of this value, and they might be prohibited to post for legal reasons.

This is why the Numismatic Crimes organization I linked to earlier is such a valuable tool. They work with law enforcement, and many dealers keep track of things posted by them. NCIC has helped recover more coins than any random forum poster will ever be able to. I highly recommend you get in touch with them and report your situation - they will push it out to dealers nationwide, and that will get you far more traction than CT members will. Especially with some of the notable coins you show.... they're bound to turn up somewhere. Having a numismatic crime ally on your side is sure to be a boon.
