I have 2 old large cents. 1802 and an 1797. The 1797 is one of the coins I've had since the early 70's. It's still in its original 2"x 2" flip. DSCN0090.jpg DSCN0107.jpg DSCN0100.jpg DSCN0101.jpg

Old copper, still one of my favourite areas in U.S Numismatics.

I absolutely adore your early copper collection @Eduard and am tickled to death when you post these. In my fifty years of collecting I have never seen a chain cent in person.

I specialized in US Large Cents for over 50yrs, but they all went away in 2006. My only remaining LC is this one -- a Sheldon 30. double locks / tailed ribbon. 1794 S-030 JDW ----.jpg

Not pretty, but it’s mine. Found at the homesite of Daniel McGirts, Revolutionary Army officer, turncoat, plantation owner and highwayman / pirate. One of only 2 found in Florida.

You must have had quite a collection, John. That S-30 you kept is really beautiful.

This coin will never win any contests for beauty, originality or preservation, but it's an example of the 1801 Three Errors large cent. On a bad day, the engraver created the meaningless fraction, "1/000", punched the "U" upside down and then right-side up in UNITED to create “IIUNITED” and left off the left stem on the wreath. This was at a time when morale was really low at the first U.S. Mint.

Forgive me for the personal question. Didn’t you author a book on large cents? Or do you happen to have the same name as the author or the Cent Book? If that is too personal, you sure don’t have to answer. I completely understand.

The reverse of your certified coin is slightly rotated.

I like this one very much! Must be a rarity. Was it ever circulated? I thought Wahington didn't want his image on a coin.
