Are there different die varieties for the 1969s double die , I have one in question that has the RTY , the first 9 , and the S also appears to be doubled ! Any help would be appreciated ! thanks................. also I have a 1995 cent that looks to have had the 95 filled but you can definatlly make out a shaddow 5 to the right and down from the original 5 that also looks as if it's filled but it is visible ! What would the latter be classified as ???? thanks again

    For the 1969-S:

Mechanical or strike doubling of the mintmark is common in the 1969-S and should not be confused with the double-die variety. Remember, the mintmark was hubbed into the dies and the mintmark punched in at a later time. Therefore a true 1969-S double die will NOT show doubling on the mint mark as well. Doubling should be on the 1969, IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY...but not the S mint mark.

    For the 1995:

Doubling is most noted on LIBERTY and to a smaller degree IN GOD. If your 1995 is filled in, that is common for coins as sometimes grease fills into dies as they are minted. You really don't see doubling/shadowing for the 1995 date in a true 1995 DDO.

Referenced from Charles D. Daughtrey's book "Looking through Lincolns" and "The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents" by David W. Lange.

As GD states, "Knowlege...Share it!" Hope that helps.

thanks for your help MIDAS on these , but on the 1995 i'm not saying that this is not a doubled die , but that you can tell for sure that the 5 was filled , but some how there is another 5 that also looks filled that is shaddowed to the right and down a bit from the original 5 . this was odd for me in that i have seen a filled number and/or letter before , but have never seen one filled and shaddowed like this one ............ anyway i will see if i can get a pic. posted tonight or tomorrow so that you guys can see this oddity , and once again thanks for the clarrification on the 69s ! ;)
