The guy who found that new IKE said he sent it to ANACS for identification and he seems to believe that there is a philosophical difference between the ANACS and the other graders. Have you heard that before? Ruben
There are only two I would say that matter - NGC & PCGS. There is only one I would use, were I to want use one - NGC. Basically ANACS and ICG traded places.
Is it fair to say that - no, not in my opinion. All the graders from ANACS went to ICG and all the graders from ICG went to ANACS. But there is another thing or two to consider besides the graders. Each grading company has its own standards, so no matter who the graders are, they have to follow the standards of the company they work for at the time. Then you have to consider what those standards are now, today. Each company has new management, new rules, new standards. And we the public don;t know what those standards are because they are not written in a published book for us to examine. Nor has either company been grading for a long enough time for us to decide that their standards are by looking at the results. But I will say this, based on what I have seen - the 10 ft. pole would not be long enough.
It's not a philosophical difference, it's a company policy difference. ANACS, at least they used to, no idea if they still do, would grade and slab a greater number of varieties than NGC, PCGS or ICG. So if what interested you was varieties and you wanted your coins slabbed - you sent them to ANACS. And what he said about JP Martin, well JP is one of the most repsected names in the business.
I agree with Doug 100%. I only buy NGC or PCGS. I like the holders of PCGS the best, but think NGC is the most consistent and accurate. Their holders are also more airtight and the new service they will be providing in Jan?? re: verifying the cert # is the solution to counterfiets for slabbed coins.
The only ones worth using are PCGS , NGC , and maybe Dominion Grading service if they get established and keep their grading even . rzage
My opinion changes on this with the changes with the services. If I wanted to sell a high dollar coin, I would probably want it in a PCGS slab. If I'm just working on my collection or playing around sending in coins, it goes to NGC. If I wanted the variety on the slab a year or so back, it went to ANACS. Today I would probably not send it in. I'm not sure of what I think of ANACS. A year from now I'll probably have a new opinion.
Ruben's characterization of the CAC as a fraud is supported by a rational argument. Your absurdly extreme opinion of the TPG's, their motives, and your use of absolutes relegates you to a conspiracy theorist IMO. If you want us to take your position seriously then please explain why the graders at PCGS and NGC are liars and how they harm the consumers (collectors) in the coin market.
Another differance is that NGC and PCGS will back up their grades with money. They will buy back and have bought back overgraded coins, or coins that have turned......... I use only 2 now, NGC and PCGS. I have used ANACS in the past, but will no longer. NGC has a numismatic and variety research dept second to none, headed by David Lange. I used ICG one time only, bad decision on my part, and this was before they traded places with ANACS. I have yet to see enough DGS coins, but have heard good things about them from others that I trust.
here are my 2 cents. there are only 2 worth companies in TPG best PCGS NGC worst NGC PCGS PCGS you can make some money coz they are inconsistent NGC is downright useless they cant read write or type especially for foreign coins. If it continues like this TPG's will become a scam
DGS presodent is a great guy and so i s David Lange they just dont grade all the coins nor can they bee expected to do so
so now you are going to use a TPG to get your coins graded. how the mighty have fallen i guess the saving grace is its only a thought we would have to close Cointalk down the day you start sending coins to TPG's
