This is actually a first for me - I've never purchased a medal in my entire life. But this thing has been buggin me all weekend ever since I saw it. I just kept hearing this voice in the back of my head - Buy Me ! Buy Me ! Buy Me !! So I did This medal was not issued in memory of some significant historical event - it's hardly worth mentioning even. But I mean dang ! Look at that thing !! Just sumpthin about it stirs my blood
This medal is from England. It is a commemorative one that commemorates the end of the Napoleonic Wars. The Roman numerals translate to 1815. Aidan
It was struck - they also issued this medal in white metal & gold. But there's never been a gold version found. You can read more about it HERE
GD has exceptional taste in most of his purchases, he sure knows how to spot a good coin! Although having said that even GD ain't 100% perfect, his idea of appealing toning on silver leaves alot to be desired...
God no !! Welllllllllllllll - maybe I should rephrase that. I do have a weakness for older Proof sets in original cases and will purchase those for the right price. Oh - and original Maundy sets of course. But those don't really count - so shhhhhhhhhh - don't tell anybody
I know for a fact you've got a 1911 set, but don't post the pics... well the gold's alright, feel free to post that. Can i ask you, did you get the bronze coins in the 1911 set or not? I dunno how they did them cos proofs aren't really my thing, i know (or at least i think i do) that they had long sets and short sets. Long having the big gold, short not having the top two.
No bronze - the Proof sets have all silver down to the 1 pence. And yes it is the short set - has the 1/2 sov. & sov - it does not include the 2 or the 5 pound coins.
Great looking medal GDJMSP. Kind of gets the whole testosterone, hairy, manliness thing going pretty good there. Arrr Arrrr Arrr! Having now admitted to purchasing a medal, I must ask if you also admit to possessing any tokens?
