This is just one of my 4 bookshelves in my office. There are about 250-300 slabs on this shelf, 50-75 proof sets, and US mint sets. There are coin albums, and some airtites, too. Coin books, Commemoratives, also. Most are Morgans—only part of the clutter. The other shelves contain slabbed Jeffersons, Kennedys, Foreign coins, etc. The other shelves are just as bad. So are 4 large Tupperware tubs in the closet, full of sets, slabs, and Dansco sets. In the closet is the safe, with the high priced stuff. Anybody else wish to post their mess?
At least I updated the Excel Sheet. I just sold a big bunch of Daniel Carr stuff, and spent the day adding and subtracting sold coins, and adding new ones recently purchased. This is semi-organized.
I have two easy solutions for you. I recommend the first one. 1- send coins to me 2- buy a second safe
I just put in an order of slab boxes from Wizard. The plastic boxes from NGC and PCGS are too wasteful on space for a SDB. I can fit nearly 350 slabs in my SDB with the cardboard boxes instead of the 20-coin plastic boxes. I'm working on getting some of these slabs to a safer locale than scattered about the house.
To answer the op question no ...hell no! And I will add I am upset with myself as I am missing a 1859 3 cent pc. And why I am upset I never ever forget where I put something, who I purchased from and its cost. Now Im 2 for 3 and missing 1 sweet coin. Plus having recurring visions of that 3 cent pc being sucked up in the dyson filled with dog hair and emptyed in the trash! I can put my hand on almost every tool I own, I know where Ive put things 20 years ago. Yet this unbelievable sweet 1859 3 cent silver is MIA! And really upset with my self.
Know how you feel. Mine was a complete disaster, until I have used the pandemic downtime to clean up. In addition to being a numismatist, I also have 8 guitars jammed into the same closet, and around the room. Next to that bookcase is a 1979 Fender American Telecaster.
My bedroom is a disaster there’s coins clothes and other stuff everywhere. I pulled a bunch of stuff out of the safe last week as I need to do some pcgs and cac orders. It’s strewn all over and that’s where it’s at
Had something similar happen recently, I have an uncirculated 71 Ike in mint packaging, that I received for my 11th birthday, come up missing while I was getting my coins set up to do a spread sheet inventory (I already have them inventoried, but not with pictures and all the pertinent info) I couldn't find it anywhere and kind of figured I had set it somewhere out of the ordinary and my wife had picked it up and put it somewhere "safe", so I marked it as "missing" on my inventory. Several weeks later, when I finally got around to taking pictures for the new inventory, I discovered that I had put it in the packaging with my 71 Proof Ike! So, hopefully yours will turn somewhere.
I am completely embarrassed by how neat, organized, and documented my numismatic holdings currently are - so much so that I cannot bear to take a photograph and put myself up for ridicule. Now, if you want a picture of my sock drawer, I would be proud to oblige.
