Some freak was keep on outbidding me although I said here before I don't like bidding wars. To the freak who won the coin: I hope it brings the worst to your life!
I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Could you post a link to the auction? Show examples you have, members have, or notable examples in a museum? Explain why it was so desirable? Describe what you think a reasonable price is? Discuss rarity and demand? Discuss trends in this area or for that coin? A bit of explanation rather than an out-of-the-blue rant would be much more useful....
Well, this is what the rant was about, Nr. 2210 in the Goldberg auction of today: this page shows nrs. 2200-2249 for comparison.
Guys, it is a Troll. IGNORE him. Check out its posts and threads. The more you react, the more he thrives. Push the IGNORE button. Don’t feed the trolls.
Nicely struck, but wasn't me. Don't care for a couple of aspects of it. The Vahran I might of been of interest if I had been looking at the auction.
some crazy dude kept on increasing the price of it. I went till 900 and stopped after that. his pocket was deeper than mine on this. I liked the coin because it was very sharp but I don't think it would worth 900. At least I made him pay overprice so if he will sell it one day he might be at a great loss (if no one like me go to war over it)
I'm with @Alegandron. That level of discussion is what we, as a community, are all about getting Away from, for a (expl.) Minute.
I always chalk it up to maybe I am the one uninformed. Its like a glass half full. I have seen plenty of coins that I thought were $200 coins go for over $1000. Heck, a friend is a world expert in one city's coinage, and I have seen him pay $800 for a coin I would never choose from a $20 pick bin. He tells me there are like 4 known. Could have been a rare mint or style. That is what I simply assume, assume the other party must have known more than me. Makes me sleep better at night. Its a hobby man. Mark Zuckerberg could outbid all of us COMBINED with his play money allowance if he felt like it. Don't stress the bumps in the road, and celebrate how we can get some of these coins at ALL. In other universes, people in our income levels would not have a hope of owning one ancient coin. We are lucky. Btw man, I spent over a decade before I could get my first Vahran II. Don't stress the wait. The right coin and sale will come along. There are 4 coming up, and I am not sure I am too awfully interested in them.....
Because I liked that specific coin for its provenance I cant trust these bahram II coins except the ones that has a good provenance the one in Ira and Larry had a provenance and it was sharp and nice . I doubt in next few years I get such chance again.
I don't know why you "can't trust them". If the type is listed in SNS, what is causing your doubt? I usually use SNS as my sounding board for these types if I wish to double check an auction listing. What provenance are you wanting? What timeframe are you wanting it to prove before? In other words, what timeframe were the fakes you are worried about produced?
Forgot about that auction - checked my bids and most were about half of the hammer price, as I figured they would be. Quick scroll through the lots - most were more than I would pay, but someone got a really nice deal on the Pescennius Niger denarius ($675) and on the Valentinian III solidus ($675)
Well, @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix did promise us a troll at least once a year, if one were to become a supporter of this great board. So, I became a supporter and now I have my troll!
I think you joking . I am nothing close not even remotely close to a troll. I just have a specific and different opinions on things which might not be the same as some people here.
So many of this type has been faked in last 10 years so any provenance of before circa 2000 would be more safe
