I had won this lot on an auction off eBay for a fairly good price, he sold two separate similar lots as well and I snagged this one. I know it’s difficult to tell because the angle of the photo I had asked for some straight shots of the 50c piece but can anyone verify if these may be real or fake before he ships them? I tried finding photos to compare but did not have much luck, thank you in advance!
I would be suspicious of that half. The denticals don't look right. The finish and surface looks off as well. The quarter and dime look okay from what I can see. The other coins look acceptable as well. Z
With the exception of the cent, they look cleaned/polished. The half is questionable the rev devices look very rounded and the rims seem very tall for the apparent circulation wear on the devices. Also, the denticals as Z pointed out. IMO
Half and dime look suspect - especially the half. When you receive them, weigh them and see how close they are to genuine
Welcome to CT @AirborneReams. As mentioned, better photos are required to make a determination, and even then, doing so from photos is difficult. Even if the seller has a "no return" policy, eBay should refund your money if the coins are determined to be fake. Please do post individual FULL IMAGE photos if you get them and want members to better evaluate them.
That’s what I was thinking but I’m waiting on further pictures that the seller said he would be sending.
I'll go out on a limb, even though the photos aren't very good, and say that Barber half is 100% fake. I see several tells of fake coins -- blobby letters and stars, odd juxtapositions of "wear" and sharp detail, overall color, and bad denticles on the obverse. I'd be astonished if it turned out to be genuine. I'd skip the other coins based on the company they keep. The half would be the big prize here if it were genuine, and naive bidders will jack up the price of the lot based on that. So, even if the other coins are genuine, you're unlikely to get a good deal on them.
Thank you for your honesty, I requested a return but the guy stated I’m getting a great deal and throwing in a Morgan dollar worth about 35$.. I’m taking the bait and testing the coins when they get here. I know how to check for a fake Morgan but how should I check the half dollar? I’m sure the ring test will work and I do have a digital scale but it’s not the best but it will give me an around number.
Your best test would be to post a photo here. There is a gracious plenty educated coin folks here that will shoot straight with you on authenticity.
