Challenge coins. Popular in military and department of defense circles for decades. But are they exonumia? Do any of you have one or a dozen? Post them up if you do. Here is one I created and had made up for an event that I attended earlier this year. Next to the Morgan Dollar. Z
Yes, we've traversed the subject of challenge coins a few times. While I am a contractor for the US navy, I have constant contact with Navy personnel. This one was given to me personally by the Command Master Chief of Naval Reactors.... basically, the biggest swinging d--k in the enlisted nuclear navy.
Nice. My son was on the first tour of the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70. He really enjoyed the US Navy and CVN's.
The Carl Vinson is a beaut. As a reservist, I got to take a short cruise on it, after active duty was over.
My son was on the first tour and received Sailor of the Quarter. Big deal, 5000+ personnel and first tour. Like you say it is a beautiful ship.
That is an honor. Congratulations! I was on it as an O5, reserve rank. I’d been a tac officer, when I served on the ‘Toga.
I think that qualifies . . . . Here is one in honor of a still living (at the time of my receipt a couple years ago) Major General. It was given to me by his grandson. Z
I guess I should have executed a search first . . . Then it probably would have been a Zombie thread resurrection . . . . Z
They should have shown him with a star rather than a bird. Very nice coin and it was a real honor to receive it.
Final add from me for the evening. Not sure the specific origins of the one. Came to me enclosed in a puzzle. Z
Yes they are, I have posted all 54 of mine here is my team coin Here is a good read on them in a free PDF download UAHCC-v0.99.pdf
