My last 3 token threads were moved to this forum so here's another one. I'm not familiar with this one but it looks to me made by the Department of the Treasury or the Denver Mint. Noticevthe D mintmark to the right of the building, just as it is on Denver Memorial Cents.
They gave (or sold, cannot remember which) those out when one would take a tour of the open to the public historical mint museum's. Not sure how many different varieties there are but I like them too. P, D, and S. Z
Hardly relevant to a specific mint, but close. I obtained this when I was employed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
Where?!? Okay, now I'm going to have to pull it out; that photo sucks. Sorry for that. Be right back . . . [Meanwhile, David struggles to find the medal and find this D mint mark.] I cannot find a D mint mark, Collecting Nut. Please help me. In any case, locating the medal pictured above caused me to find the medal pictured below! A U.S. Mint bicentennial medal!
The D is in the same place as it is on the Lincoln Memorial. It's just to the right of the building at 3:00.
I have a few of these mint medals. They are well made. I think most of them are sold at the mint souvenir shops. This one is in its original cello envelope.
Here are mint medals from the mint sets still in the package. The Denver is the red stripe with the treasury seal facing the camera. Edit: about the diameter of a small cent.
According to the insert that came with this medal, it is the first commemorative medal struck at the Denver Mint. I assume in 1976.
