Here is an antoninianus of the Roman emperor Valerian (ruled 253 to 260 AD). The reverse shows Valerian in military attire, leaning on a spear, with a small female figure reaching up to him. The phrase on the reverse is RESTITVTOR ORBIS which translates to “Restitutor or ruler of the world.” The bragging came back to haunt him. Although he did have some success against the Goths, he was captured by the Sasanid Persians in 260 AD was never seen or heard from again.
