I have no dog in this fight (well, except my fondness for corgis :)), but I read all of his posts up to this point, and AFAICT he did NOT call it a counterfeit. He asked a lot of questions, and said he doesn't like them (which is fair, no?). But I don't see where he "called it a counterfeit" as you claim.

EXCEPT where, as here, the accusation of denigration was SPECIFICALLY based on a (false) allegation that he called the items counterfeit. Go back and read the post that accused him of denigration . . . it accepted that stating his opinion that it is "crap" is not the denigration in question.

PCGS and NGC will also do some of his original stuff but as of now not the overstrikes.

He already said that he did.

I enjoy your posts here very much. More than most others I read. However, to me, who cares not one way or the other about Mr. Carr and his products but is amused by this discussion, you seem to have a chip on your shoulder about this subject. Only you can look inside and honestly determine that . . . I'm just telling you the way it seems to me, someone who (again) does not care one way or the other about Mr. Carr and his products.

I think they should rethink that position. Documenting it for what it is would be a positive for the community.

Ignoring them, well, it just doesn't make any sense to me - unless they are bowing to the vociferous protests of his detractors . . . .

Are you using defamation in a legal sense, or just speaking colloquially? If legal, I would be curious as to your qualifications and experience to make such an assertion. TIA!

I think we settled most of this late last night. New thoughts being brought to the table this afternoon.

    Worrying about the closed topics, is kind of . . . . . . deadhorse.gif deadhorse2.gif

I don’t need someone else to validate that Corgi calling Carr’s work “crap” is denigration, I can make that claim all on my own.

It's probably just a liability thing for them or at least has been in the past.

Really pleased that you were somewhat entertained and amused by the lively discourse last night. I am not sure I am up to a repeat performance.

I'll let you carry the mantle this evening.

Head scratcher to be sure. Rendering a professional opinion grade and origin of creation? Both of those seem to be well documented and knowable.

Speaking to the Carr Fantasy strikes that is. I totally understand not wanting to certify actual forgeries and / or counterfeits.

    Hmm . . . . . . .

If for some reason they ever were deemed illegal (people have reported them many times to basically every agency you can report them too) it could potentially get messy. It's easier for them to not risk it for such a small obscure product that would make no difference on their bottom lines.

Most people would still use the cheaper TPGs anyways and maybe try and cross the 70s or something. For many years ANACS refused to give any of the over strikes a 70 too

I think if the TPGs are going to do this, they should provide a metallurgical analysis of the coin so that potential buyers could assess the intrinsic value.

The cost for these is a few dollars more than for a genuine coin because we need to change the tape in the label machine. Slows production.

What you suggest would cost the submitter over $100. No thanks. :p

I was talking about the gold coins, but $100, WOW, I had no idea.

Can you explain why it costs that much?
