I I will give that a go, I believe I have 2 more ICG graded coins ... PR70 GA & CT State Quarters .... )
Did a search today for F-VF 1909-S VDBs on eBay for something I'm writing. I found several decent examples for less than $900. They were all certified by either PCGS or NGC. The pictures of the coin at the beginning of this thread look horrible. Hard for me to believe that anyone would give this one a second look.
@Insider. Hope you start a new thread re your experiment. Other members will probably have stories to tell.
Very good to know..Just quite not ready money flow wise. I don't wan't a "filler" at less than a G grade. I will do the home work needed though. Oh yes, that OP coin looks even more awful when the picture is blown up more. Really looks like it was soaked for a while in something harsh. Looks like some cleaned Lincoln's I got in some "Un searched" rolls and even worse maby. The seller also has that insane 58D for big money and all the coins are basicly insanely priced..
Pass, there are better coins at lower prices out there. Be patient in finding the right coin for your collection.
A Lincoln collector You can't send them to NGC, they only allow PCGS for cross over. As far as PCGS, the onces that deserve to cross cross. Cross over grading as you know is always more conservative especially with slabs like ICG that hides the edges. They want the best coins in their holders regardless of where they came from hence they allow cross overs from anyone, its no secret though that raw coins will always have a better rate
FYI, PCGS has this video on YouTube going over counterfeits & they talk about the sandblasted look to some pennies, similar to this.

A coin dealer did it and then sent IGC a wonderful endorsement. If I remember the coin in a slab were returned as cleaned. When sent back "raw" the grades were the same! Chris Winkler, posted: "PCGS has this video on YouTube going over counterfeits & they talk about the sandblasted look to some pennies, similar to this." PLEASE IMHO, ANY ONE, who even thinks that coin is in ANY WAY "sandblasted" needs to have their eyes examined AND take a basic coin grading course. Otherwise, thanks for the link.
The picture of the full slab makes it look like a good coin. The close-up pictures are over exposed and misleading. Going by them, it looks like it's been cleaned.
