Is this some kind of doubled die.. Not like the 1955 P or anything.. The mintmark and LIB in Liberty kinda look like it.. And the lettering on the back is skinner.. I can never tell..
I don't see anything but some flattening due to wear and circulation. The doubled dies for this year and MM mostly have to do with Abe's eye.
Mint Marks cannot be Doubled Die for 1955 because they were hand punched into the Die. Doubled Die occurs when there is Hub Doubling.
I thought they could give it a whack and then move it slightly and whack it again. Are you saying no doubled mint marks on coins that had the mint mark added to the die?
Correct. They could be RPM - Repunched Mint Marks but not Doubled Die. Since they were added and not created during the hubbing process then it can't be
OK, more of a semantics thing...I thought an RPM was just a doubled die mint mark. I didn't know...now I know (don't ask me tomorrow though)
The obverse of your coin shows evidence of a very worn die. As the dies become very worn, the lettering gets thicker.
Okay.. Thanks y'all.. I have 3 of these and they all kinda favor.. One of them has a dark red color to it.. What does that mean, if you don't mind me asking?? The second one looks like something may be going on with the R in Liberty.. TY
