how do u spell commemerative???? is this right? well anyways who or what should we have commemerated on a nice coin?? im thinking maybe, well i dont know uhhhhhhhhh Eleanor Roosevelt?
Better yet....get a Red book---if you don't have one you need one....its better to buy it than a coin....because you should read the book BEFORE you buy the coin.. And no I don't want Roosevelt on a Comm. Speedy
The question should be; how do U (ewe) spell it? It would seem that our younger generation believes that all you need to do is obtain a book (one way or another), and then sit long enough on it, and all the information contained within the book will be transfered to you by a process of absorption, known as osmosis. I guess some of them haven't sat long enough for this to have worked.
easier to google it anyway.....are we going waste another thread bantering symantecs and genrational differences .....or answer the coin related question? My first trouble in deciding on something to commemorate on a coin, is finding something that hasn't already been commemorated. Every time I try, GDJ sends me a "too late, been done" link
Hmmmmm - then I reckon the best place to start is to look and see what HAS been done already click here
Numismatic---and again...you need a Red Book----Also I don't think the mint will ever do a Coin Collector Comm....they don't make coins for Coin Collectors...they do it to make money. Speedy
But that would require reading and possible research...who has time to read, spell correctly, and research their hobby anymore?? We live in a gimme-gimme society where many want everything handed to them!
Here are few ideas..... The Underground Grammarian Commemorative Coin featuring Richard Mitchell who became famous for skewering bad usage in memos by overpaid college administrators. The Noah Webster Commemorative Coin The Oscar the Grouch Commemorative Coin featured as the lead coin in a series of unique examples of modern Americana. Just trying to keep it light, pointed, but light
Got to love it! Now GDJMSP has got two of us to keep an eye on around here. There for a minute I thought I was getting a flash back to the good old days, and seeing myself on CW. Keep telling it like it is Midas and I for one will back you all the way.
There's a few books out there on commems. Take a look and you will find some very fascinating history. They are wonderful to collect, and you can collect them in many different subsets. IMHO, the early commem halves rule, and the designs for the most part are wonderful. You can go by states (Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Hawaii - Ouch pricewise, Iowa, etc.), events (although several of the event commens in the 30's are incredibly lame), or whatever you like. A nice California commen set (Pan Pac, Monroe, Bay Bridge, Calif. Jubilee, and San Diego) is a fun challenge. My question to ya'll is .. which early commens do you guys like? Note that I could care less about the spelling - I just say commems.
Well being born bought up in KY I would have to like the Boone...I hope that someday I will be able to get one but other than that I don't have a pick.... Speedy
