I tried to clean these in vinegar and salt for a minute and it didn't get them completely clean.. I'm afraid it's going to mess them up.. Both are error coins.. Soap and water does not work.. Any suggestions
Most of that will not come off without some very harsh cleaning. Best, to just spend them. I didn't see you said there were errors. What kind?
I won't say what's already been said, so instead, I will say, who told you to clean them that way? Salt and vinegar is for potato chips, not coins. that's a good way to turn a penny pink and discolor a nickel because it's high copper content. If these were not mint state and were circulated to begin with, with this staining, it's likely etched into the coins at this point and no amount of cleaning is going to remove it except maybe sandblasting, sand paper, or a die grinder. I see a value of 10 cents between the two of them here so no biggie, unless I'm missing something. Nothing jumps out at me to be an error. oh darn,,,, I ended up saying it anyways at the end....
Since this is the 54th anniversary of the premiere of Star Trek, I thought this clip would be appropriate. "Error?" "Error?" "Examine!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=18&v=rge17TciHfU&feature=emb_logo
