Guys--what can these mark be???

The funny thing is that I seen them in New coin out B.U. Roll ---

They are caused by being struck by another reeded coin. PMD.

 

Then why is it 3 marks every time?not 1 or 2 but 3 in a straight line--i can post 20 pics all the same

 

All I can say is, it looks like a Reeded edge coin caused that but yet it doesn't. It does appear to be Damage but from what, I can only guess.

 

I.m trying to write the mint?Cause I seen like 100 coins with the same 3 mark but can you see where it's kind of impossible for it to look the same?

 

A coin is round.. When the reeded edge hits the face if a coin usually 3 reeds leave the incused impression. The one in the middle is a bit deeper and the other 2 aren't as deep. It is a mysterious effect but that's the way it is.

 

I agree with Mr. P.! The greatest impact coming from the reeds is in the middle.

This happens when the coins are in the big heavy coin bags. They have a lot of weight on them and sometimes the armored car folks tosses the bags on the ground and into the trucks . This is probably how the coins can get three or four reed marks on them . The coins can roll around a bit and under heavy pressure can put quite a few reed marks on coins all at one time. I hope this info. can help someone learn

 

I have a BU 1921 Morgan dollar with the same kind of marks on the reverse. Bag marks from another dollar coin.

 

Rascal ty but how do you explain the the bend on the first mark kinda hard for it to happen repeatedly -- it looks like a upside down L

The host coin that made the reed marks has been twisted a bit during this and made a scrape mark when disengaging from the coin. I see these all the time and these bag marks takes away from the value of a BU coin. Keep at it and you may end up finding some really good ones.

 

Bag marks from a reed, nothing more and NAV.

 

Reed marks can have many different looks and can kill the value of the coin.
This Morgan got it's share of reed marks.

 

You guys can understand why I am curious about precise marks.If they was random and in different places then I woulda resign to the bag mark theory but the fact that they are 3 in a straight line and always together makes me wonder--guys if they banging in the bag shouldn't the coin have one here and one there?But I got by coin with just these 3 marks nothing else at all-- And I thank you when I first got here I couldn't tell the difference between a small date and a large date now I can spot them a mile away and dd

 

Now you can understand why I said it looks like a reeded edge coin hit it. But as for my other comment, yet it doesn't. I said that because it's a heavy mark. You can see metal pushed in one direction. Yes I've seen a Reeded edge coin do that but with the number you state you have, if they all appear in the same place on the coin and if they all show metal displacement, it could be from another source. Even if it happened at the Mint as part of the minting process it's still damages the coin.

No as it's not really an error in minting. A number of things can happen at the Mint that cause damage. This would be considered one of them.

I have no problems with you calling me CN or Nut. In a number of ways I am. My wife would agree. Lol
