Oh wauw! This deserves a separate thread! What a find. I think most of us would like to help describing the hoard.
Wow... Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, Faustina I, Faustina II, Marcus Aurelius as Caesar... lots of fun there! That’s amazing! You can’t find that in Minnesota... unless I bury my own coins and forget where I buried them. We should play “Date the hoard” by identifying the latest coin in the photos.
Have to second Roerbakmix. And everyone else's superlatives. Amazement, compounded by awe. Good luck with the whole process from here. ...Granted, looks a little bit like it started out with some.
I will put more pictures up shortly hope you will be able to see them properly I will do my best it’s not easy with iPhone 4
....cf. Exodus Gear's comment on the first page. Compared to anywhere in Europe, detecting in America is literally a joke. College rings, on a Really good day.... Only way I'd ever invest in a metal detector was if there was anything to find in the first place.
Thanks for the photo's, its (again) amazing! Especially to see them together. When it comes to the date: So far I think I see a Nero (no. 29), which could be the earliest. I think the reverse shows Salus, so that would be AD 65-66, but I'm not really 100% sure. I also spot a Septimius Severus (no 131), with a reverse with legionary standard. That's dated 193 AD. That could be the latest as far as I can tell. Some I can't really tell, hard to see on the pictures, or too much mud/horn silver on them. Perhaps the more experienced members are able to give more accurate information.
Thanks for taking the time to look at them I know it’s difficult to see uncleaned if you see any of interest give me the number and I will take a close picture
...That's a serious galley. No one would mistake it for anything else. Almost as good as a Marc Antony, on that front.
