One of my first coins I bought in the summer of 2014 was a denarius of Severus Alexander. Ever since then I’ve always been interested in his story: A 13 year old who comes to rule the empire who is constantly under his mothers thumb, but somehow does a good job as Emperor. Under more peaceful times Alexander could have easily ruled for decades, but it was not to be..... Anyhow, here is my latest coin purchase!!!!! Severus Alexander. 222-235 CE AR denarius Rome mint, struck 228 CE Laureate bust right, wearing slight beard / Severus Alexander (as Romulus) advancing right, holding transverse spear and trophy 3.11 g, 19 mm, silver, nearly as struck RIC IV 85; RSC 351
..super nice one Magnus! ...i'm ashamed to say i don't even have a denarius of him......but he is represented in my collage of emperors by other coins ..
Would you allow a small cast limes copper-alloy denarius/quinarius of Alexander as Caesar AE15mm 1.53g?
That's lovely, @Magnus Maximus ! Here's my most recently acquired Severus Alexander: Severus Alexander, AD 222-235. Roman AR denarius, 2.95 g, 19.4 mm, 1 h. Rome, issue 12, AD 231. Obv: IMP SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate head, right, with drapery on left shoulder. Rev: ANNONA AVG, Annona standing left, holding corn-ears in right hand over modius at feet and holding anchor in left hand. Refs: RIC 188; BMCRE 674-76; RSC 29a; RCV 7859.
Well I always like to see a Sev Alex thread! Nice portrait, and an exceptionally nice version of that reverse. I'm missing that type from my middle bronze collection; here's one struck in about the same year though. Given the title, I think this thread needs his mum in it too!
Nice coin! Coins of SA are very available, and it strikes me that many are of more than good quality. Here are mine:
