Hello, I was fortunate and or unfortunate to have recieved these coins from an ebay purchase. I didn't buy these as errors and or without stamps but thats the way they came. These are COPY-REPLICA Lincolns nice likeness but they do not have a COPY or REPLICA stamp on them and these are just some of the coins that have no stamp. My intention in buying these was to try enhance coin sales on ebay but cant list them without the coin being stamped. Further more the 1914-D has rotated die rv apx 180 degrees and no stamp . The 1931-S has a rotated die rv to west and no stamp, .both coins are in 2x2 holder thus the fuss. Seller sent me a heavy steel shank with REPLICA at end..I have tried to stamp one of the 9 Morgans I have and with a hammer but being a musician and needing my hands I am a bit shy of this and very little of the srtike showed on coin. edited Does anyone collect these? Thanks, Jerry
They look pretty real dont they. If you were trying to sell them on ebay but want them stamped, Ill stamp them for you if you want. Im a roofer and we hand nail, Im not afraid to smash my fingers, I do it all the time.
I appreciate your offer to stamp these coins..but then they would become normal copy coins. I myself think they are a bit unique especially with the rotated die rv Lincolns. I'll keep them as they are. Thanks, Jerry
There are people who collect replicas. As long as your motives are pure and you dont try to sell them as real, then I think its pretty cool. I'd be afraid of these getting into the wrong hands. They are rather convincing replicas from what I can see. I'd want to study them more and see what the differences are, so I could spot a counterfeit in the real world....in that sense they can be quite educational.
Even if you stamped them REPLICA you could not legaly sell them. By law they must be stamped COPY not replica. There are also legal requirements for the height of the letters in the word copy and the overall length of the word.
These are not considered Replicas or Copies. They are Counterfeits probably being done by the person that they just did two articles on in CoinWorld. Probably a Chinese vendor. The secret service will not likely go after these as they are too busy but these are nothing but illegal to sell forgeries. You really should mark them or destroy them so some person, somewhere down the line doesn't get ripped off. Thanks, Bill
Even though you are technically correct regarding the law and the word COPY, I think the meaning of the law is fulfilled if a fake coin is stamped REPLICA. I also doubt that any enforcing agency would even think of prosecuting the transfer of a coin marked REPLICA, especially when they seem totally unwilling to prosecute the transfer of those not marked at all.
If you've never read it here's the HPA http://www.greatamericancoincompany...e-US-Hobby-Protection-Act-15USC-2101-c15.html
