I find this coin to be very interesting. Rainbow toned mint state IHC's are more elusive than most would think and this one seems to have outstanding luster especially on the reverse. I would like to to know what the members of this forum would consider paying for this piece. Numismedia Wholesale is $258 and Numismedia Retail is $335. Please vote in the poll above how much you would pay for this coin.

I do not collect IHC's but I do need a rainbow toned example for my 20th Centruy Type Set.

I think you are asking the wrong question. I would only pay enough to guarantee that I would not lose any money selling it to you. If your question is how much do you think Lehigh96 would pay for it, that would be a different answer.

I think that coin is very attractive and definitely worth a premium over retail. So, I said I would be willing to pay between retail and 2x wholesale. Based on the pics, I don't know if the colors are vibrant enough for me to go any higher.

As its an attractive piece with interesting color, I would probably pay between $200 and $250 for it, if I were rolling in cash at least. The top photo looks really washed out and I'll bet anything it looks better in hand.

    $0 I don't collect Indians :)

As to what it may be worth, I have no clue myself, but the figure of $180 plus vig and shipping? Am I close? :D

    Nice coin BTW

Oh, and stop looking at those damned price guides they are only going to get you into trouble. Look closer at the market. I figured the coin for $200 before I saw the specific sale price....

I'd pay about half of your lowest option above...which is why I don't own one of that caliber.

Now that's a pretty IC , I think it's worth a premium maybe 25% over retail , Le I think if you hold out you could find a real stunner to match the rest of your collection , but if the coin in hand looks better then the picture this coin would fit the bill .

Most people here know that I rarely even consult price guides other than to obtain a multiplier. The reason for listing the price guides was so that I could get an honest response from the forum members. Without them, everyone would simply search Heritage's archives and find the exact price that the coin sold for. I knew what the sale price was. This was an attempt to find out how much others who did not participate in the auction might be willing to pay.

It is extraordinarily rare for a rainbow toned coins (even coppers) to sell without any premium. In this case, without a premium to past prices realized.

I have become very good at viewing Heritage photos that do not flatter rainbow toned coins and picking coins that will have exceptional eye appeal. My guess is that this coin will be much more attractive in hand. I don't have real good success at photographing toned copper coins but I will post a phtoo when the coin arrives so that we can compare.

I like this coin though I believe it will look better in hand than the photos. And, of course, a high grade rainbow toned coin does warrant a premium price over a RB IHC.

I have sold Lincolns with that type of color in the 2-5X sheet range, it all depends on the coin. The 09-66RB in my album sold for $600, PCGS price guide for 66RB is $135. Of course I paid huge to buy it as well. The 42-D ( 65-RB )sold for $200, it was a bag find.

On this OP coin, I picked 2X wholesale

As an MS-64 with full feathers, 4 diamonds and no obvious defects, I'd pay around $150. As a coin with this kind and amount of toning I'd pay around $0. Not my thing.

I mean my CT album, you can click on it somehow, I am not an expert with links. Provided that OP Indian is NT, I would suspect it to bring a great deal of premium over sheet, pics are tough to judge.

The only problem with that is I have not been able to find a mid range (pricewise) stunner. The only IHC's I have been able to locate with nice toning are the few hundred $ coins like this or the other extreme like this:

All things being equal, I would rather have this:

If I may be so bold.... That coin is not up to your standards, Lehigh.

Why are you even looking at MS coins -- doesn't the (much more attractive) proof hold that spot? What am I missing here?
