I was wandering through ebay looking at coins way out of my league, and stumbled on this seller's ebay store I don't know about the pricing, but there are plenty of great high res pictures of some beautiful coins to poke through. Enjoy.
I have looked at his before---I looked but didn't buy ;--) He seem to have a lot of money to be able to buy the coins.... Speedy
Wishful thinking on my part Its actually a photo from one of the coins sold by anaconda. Here's the LINK When I saw the pictures of the coin I knew I had finally found my avatar ....until something picture worthy makes into my own collection.
Wow! That is ONE beautiful ASE! I wonder what it looks like in person. The picture of the toning is incredible! I've never seen one like it...
Got a question for you lawdogct, and the question is this; does anyone have the right to take someones picture and use it as their own? I could see it if you had forked over the $4,000 to purchase the coin and it was now yours, but isn't there something about using someones material that just don't seem right. Maybe I'm wrong on this one, but I know the music fans are all up tight over just such actions. What is your take on this?
Was going to ask if I should give credit in the avatar, but decided on few things....my post was long enough, I "altered" the photo making it a unique piece of art, I read through several of the sellers items and no images were watermarked, trademarked and or copyrighted, I'm not profiting by the use of the image, I'm not claiming it as my own, and finally, the avatar is a tribute to the beauty of the coin, and the joy of numismatics in general. I dunno, just a few things that actually went through my mind before chosing to use it
I think that it is alright as long as you changed it some how...at least that I how I heard the law.... It is a nice coin...I wish I could own it but I wouldn't be paying that price... Speedy
I've used other's pics a few times for different things, like an avatar. I have always asked permission first. No one has ever said no. If the photo goes with a coin that I've purchased off ebay or such, then I feel perfectly free to use the photo. I've been told that anything you post on ebay becomes public property and can be used by others freely. There was a big discussion a few years ago about people copying other people's ebay listing in total. Not sure of the legalities of any of that stuff.
Hey if anybody know anything about the photos on ebay being public domain let me know as there are some photos I need for a article--- It seems to be about right...some people face is public domain so I would think photos on the internet would be too.... Speedy
Shhhhh...I wouldn't say anything. BTW, those Toned Proof SAE's are going for some nice dollars aren't they? I looked at some of the auction houses and found this one: Silver American Eagle - Toned LINK Now...how I can get my Proof SAE's in my PCGS holders to tone? Must be nature's magic!
Midas--when I got the auction catalog in the mail I marked that one as one I wanted to bid on--I forgot and didn't get to bid on any coin but when I saw the price it went for I almost fell out of the chair!!! Speedy
Here is a better link....your ????? were a little too near the link. It is the toning that makes the price like that, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39459&item=3938537687 Speedy
