What Can 99 Cents Buy You On Ebay?

The one you bought on eBay had very clear photos. If it was a coin in such great demand, you wouldn't have been the only bidder. The fact that you bought this on the world's largest exposure auction site and no one else bid on it says something about the demand.

I've already said I don't care about what others think - I like what is an attractive (IMO) coin that is very rare and hard to find. This coin is not unlike several others I have shared. And my point is that very nice and even rare coins that are attractive can be found on the 'bay and other places at favourable prices. One doesn't have to have a huge income to be able to get nice coins.

Since you chose to go there, I think however that your rationale is very poor - that somehow if I was the only bidder that somehow a coin might not be in demand. I can point out a number of examples where I have gotten Ebay coins that were clearly photographed and advertised that were very special and after being recognised meritted praise and demand.
In the biggest case I got a certain sovereign for 1250 pounds that later I sold WHOLESALE for 20,000 pounds. Certainly there have been others.

That "uniqueness" was not a term used by me. However, I will say I haven't seen another for sale in 20 years + of collecting these. So perhaps not too far off technically speaking. And at that price? I hope to find more such pieces.

You'll perhaps recall that I posted a similar uncirculated 1984FM Trinidad 50c piece that cost a whopping $3.59 with shipping that is also the only one seen with no reported mintage.

 

@7Jags : It is a nice coin. I'm not intent on detracting from the fact you got a good deal. A little bit of context helps newer collectors understand the mintage numbers. A mintage of 141 seems absurdly low in the oft-USA-centric mentality of this site.

As for the 1250 --> 20,000 purchase: Good for you! I'll extrapolate and assume you could sell the current coin for $16 then

 

The only coin in this pic that cost more than a buck is the florin, middle left, which set me back 1.49. All were an eBay gift card spree.

Hey, I like the selection & the 5 francs is my favourite and the shilling looks to have a good bit of lustre.

 

I didn't want anything rare. I purchased either for sentimental value of places I've been or simply to get large coins cheap. The Norwegian moose is probably my favorite of the bunch.

 

Let's see some more Ebay bargain coins that are nice!
