So, last week I made a poll asking you to vote for your favorite 5 cent piece design and before that it was the cent. The premise was, the US government had decided to change the cent to a "historical" design based on a popular vote. So, now that the 5 cent piece poll has closed...it's time to do it for the dime. I think I'll do a weekly poll of this fashion just for fun. Again, here are the "rules and circumstances" behind the poll. The US government has decided to change the design on the nickel. They don't want to use a new design but rather bring back the most popular design in US history. They want to change the design on all denominations of our change to reflect the best America has ever used. However, there are some limits. Most notably, the planchet the coin is being struck on. Regardless of the winning design, the coin will be struck on the 2.27g clad reeded rimmed planchet that is currently used. So, you may want to factor that into the decision you make. The poll will run for 7 days and you will only be allowed to vote for one design. Previous Winning DesignsCent: Flying Eagle Cent 34.15% of vote Nickel: Buffalo Nickel 39.13% of vote
I was very torn with this one. I really love the Mercury Dime, but I also really love the Draped Bust design...in the end, I voted Draped Bust.
I voted for the Merc. I would say the Busties are tied though, or at least close. And actually, in your scenario, I think I would want to bring back the Capped Bust dime just because it goes back so much farther in history.
Going against the grain again "Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle Reverse" - I just like this design as a whole. With the Mercury Dime I like the reverse but not the Obverse - as much as the Draped Bust obv. Mercury would be my second choice though.
I like the Mercury. It was the first Whitman folder I had as a kid. Perhaps the Mercury design would look nice on a quarter. Very best regards, collect89
Merry Christmas to All! This is certainly a no brain er for me. The Winged Liberty is by far my favorite. Mostly because I remember seeing them in circulation when I was quite young and mistaking her for the God Mercury. MS state examples are my passion. I have some 65's, graded, and some that would grade higher, IMHO, raw. Great Post! Lots of history involved with this design and the sculptor. God Bless Us All! Allen
