I have recenly become interested in collecting world coins, I allready have a small collection that my ex-father in law gave me from when he was in the air force, many are mid east and asian, im leaning more toward austrailian coinage though. ive done several searches for price guides but I would like to know what dealers use when pricing world coins.

Krause Publication's "Standard Catalogue of World Coins" is the book. Well, books actually. 1 for each century: 1601-1700,1701-1800,1801-1900,1901-date They are rather large phone books, and kinda costly. Generally, they're good, though as with any catalogue, there stuff that's undervalued and overvalued.

For Australian, I'd suggest The handbook of Australian Coins and Paper Money (or something like that) by McDonald.

The dealers in this area generally buy World Coins by the pound if loose or the page if in 2x2s. The going rate varies wildly depending on the dealer and weither they need them for their foreign or junk boxes at coming shows.

Many won't touch the more expensive stuff - little resale market.
