For Sale: One of the First and Most Valuable Dollars in U.S. History https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/for-sale-most-valuable-american-coin
The Mint was under Thomas Jefferson, Sec of State, not Hamilton Sec of Treasury. That's because it's the same coin. But they made a lot more dollars than they did dimes. (1,446,196 dollars compared to 469,406 dimes 1794 - 1804) That was because the mint made what the depositor wanted, and most of the large depositors wanted dollars. (At the time the mint had no gold or silver of their own and only coined bullion that citizens, businesses, and banks deposited.) The King of Siam coin was the LAST of the 1804 dollars to come to light, in 1962. The first came to collectors attention in 1842 and I believe 14 of the 15 known coins were known before the end of the 19th century.
