Online coin dealers?

Just on their site...WOW, what a lot of changes. Not only are "the girls" gone but the company has moved to Maryland.

Maryland was a really weird choice for relocation from a business standpoint.

 

Almost every brick-and-mortar coin shop that I have ever been in, uses coin worlds price for coins as their price guides when buying and selling. There has been only one coin shop that I have been in to actually use greysheet prices. Also other coin shops that I've been in use Red Book prices to price their coins as well. Or another tactic is, they will look up the coin on eBay for recent completed sales they will choose the lowest price that particular coin sold for then offer you a price based off of that.

 

I'd like to see dealers price based off of the PCGS auction records. I think those are far more accurate than any price guide or the CDN, because it gives a good idea of what someone is willing to pay at any given time.

 

I still think Heritage Auction archives is the best place for pricing. Each on of their listings has 8 different price points from NGC, PCGS, CDN, etc. They also have a Heritage Index which tends to be much more accurate than either the NGC or PCGS price.

 

Hmm... I bet some kid expecting to use the knowledge of others to line his pockets might have just a little something to do with this. It’s okay, though; whine away about what meanies @frankjg and I have been while ignoring the fact that maybe, just maybe, the real issue here starts a little closer to home. It’s one thing to help someone genuinely trying to learn, but something else altogether to do for them what they should be doing for themselves.

Surely you recall your cheeseball responses instead of appreciating or even simply ignoring a suggestion that has been immensely helpful to those actually wanting to learn. Classy.

It's been awhile so I thought I would revisit this. Does anyone have a coin dealer online that sells raw coins--they they have had a good experience with? I have moved away from great Southern coins mainly because their coins get boosted way too high for what they are selling due to many over zealous people. I've had luck with a dealer called 4coins on the USA coin book site. But they have limited coins for sale. I'm looking for pre-1928 Gem Lincoln s to finish my collection. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks,

I have bought several coins from Silver City Auctions. They have a Tuesday and Thursday auction. Wide variety of coins. They do charge 15 percent. Good Luck.

Did a lot of business buying and selling with the girls at Jj tea party don’t know the nes management. Gerry Fortin is a good friend. High quality. Pricy but handles a lot of premium stuff. Tom at northeast numismatics I’ve done quite a bit with too. Especially selling. David Kahn has a great eye always has been fair and is good to do business with. DLRC always good. Rare coins of New Hampshire another I’ve done business with. Nice guys and fair. And don’t forget our couple dealer members @ToughCOINS and @C-B-D both fair and high quality too. Though I know John likes to try and score off eBay lol.and of course ive bought plenty from HA and StacksBowers. I’ll hopefully be getting back to doing shows again soon too once they start up

My shop on ebay uses NGC's website for listing prices or PCGS's website for US coin and mint set prices. NGC's site is a continuation of Krause's value system.

Three online dealers I've found to be quite reputable are Northeast Numismatics, Sarasota Numismatics, and Empire coins. Another good outfit is DLRC (David Lawrence Rare Coins).

 

DLRC has a lot of coins on eBay; I don't know about the other two I mentioned.

 

Ditto the recommendation for David Lawrence. Their website has a new feature that provides a tilted view of coins to see radiant luster and better examine the surfaces. They also provide star ratings for eye appeal that really helps pick out stunners. And they ship lightning fast! (PS. I'm not affiliated with them!) Lol
