Yes there are unlisted varieties and errors. The sites I posted will give you insight to know varieties and a few errors. There is a difference between the two! Spend some time reading the information on these sites and it will provide you with a wealth of knowledge. Here’s a few sites for errors. http://www.error-ref.com/ http://cuds-on-coins.com/ https://www.maddieclashes.com/
Keep looking--Everytime I find a error I go out of my way to find 2 or 3. We can provide clues but finding another will be your best proof
Finding a new CLASS of error would be most unusual, but finding an error in a known class where no other specimen is known is possible. But since errors are pretty much the result of a mechanical failure, and coins are made the same way every year, so if a failure creates an error one year it probably occurs every year. Varieties are typically the result of something happening in the die making process. Since the advent of hubbing in the 1830's the possible types of varieties has been reduced (overdates, repunched dates, misplaced dates, over mintmarks, repunched mintmarks and doubled dies are pretty much it.) After dates were added to the hubs around 1907 the repunched and misplaced dates disappeared, and the only overdates were the result of doubled dies. After 1990 when mintmarks were added to the master die repunched and overmintmarks became pretty much impossible. After single squeeze hubbing began in 1996 doubled dies became very minor. (but possibly more common.) It is possible to find previously unknown varieties. The mint uses a LOT of dies each year and basically in discovering a variety, you are identifying a specific die.
I agree ive got some pennys tht have errors because I can't find a match anywhere that matches what I got
Got it ..this is a great educating site I'm learning More a out does don't than coins but thattwhat I think should be first right theory
Most mint errors have already been documented. If you don't know how coins are minted and how mint errors occur then what you have might just be post mint damaged coins. Sorry. Pictures will determine what you have. Mr. Ed Specializing in collecting Mint Errors since 1985.
