Yeah, I think it is nice if you are into the crusty look. I sure am, but I'm willing to bet some people here would think it's butt ugly...;)

It looks to grade at least VF-35, but I'd want to pay more like G-VG money for it.

why is that? do you think its damaged, or just don't like the crusty toning?

I don't care for it, but that's just me. I can't tell in the pics if it's toning or something on the coin. If it's toning, and you like the toning...there is no reason not to get it. Toning is a very individual thing, everyone as a little bit different taste. If this is what you like in toning, then go for it if the price is right. If that happens to be something else on the coin's surface (which is hard to tell in the photos), then I would stay away.

It looks like something on the coin to me. Almost looks like a metal detector find ?

I'd have to net grade it down some.

What's the mark at 11o'clock on obv ?

I'd want to see it in hand before buying it

I would say VF30 and add on what looks like a few old scratches. Anyway I still think it is a nice coin. As mentioned this is one I would skip on ebay, but would look at down at the coin store.

The coin is in a VF-25 NGC slab, so I believe it is likely problem free(though I have seen problem coins in NGC slabs). Do you think they downgraded it a point for the toning?

I don't think so - the only think that concerns me would be the the dig in front of the eagles beak. They probably hit the grade better than me - wait until you have it in hand. I bet it looks better in person. I have a couple of crusty bustie's myself - I think they look better in hand than in pictures.

My VF-35 was a bit strong, upon further reflection, VF seems OK. It's one of those coins you need to see in person.

since were on the subject of crusty toned coins, here is a barber half that I've been drooling over. I know that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but this barber has a gorgeous tan imo.

What is that bluish green stuff on the shield? That worries me - everything else looks okay to me.

All I need for my Barbers is a nice 1/2 , I have a MS dime and quarter , that 1/2 would fit right in , I like it .

Yeah, there appears to be "gunk" of some kind on the shield which would drive me away from this coin. I think it is a beautiful coin otherwise...but that stuff would concern me.

I'd pay an additional premium for this piece actually. It's quite a pleasing color.
