I am new to coin collecting and was wondering how reliable is the US Mint in shipping and fulfilling orders. I ordered 3 1 oz. Silver Eagles and one 1 oz. Gold Eagle from them on Nov. 28th. I got a letter that I needed to confirm my shipping and billing address a week later. I sent the letter back right away and nothing has happened since then. The order status seems to be stuck at "in process" for the last 2 weeks and customer service rep says that I just have to wait and nothing else can be done. Is this typical to wait so long for these coins? Is the demand really that high? The website says that they are available and ready to ship. With Gold it is upgraded to 2-3 business days. I am confused. Thanks.

    Welcome to CT.

You caught the Mint at an odd time. A few weeks ago the Mint announced they were cutting 60% of their product line and had a HUGE sale. They are in the process of fulfilling those orders.

Plus the Mint is changing fulfillment contractors at this time. Your order shipment may have been affected by the changeover.

Thanks for the reply, but I do not understand that why it takes so much time to put a few coins in the mail? I guess it is the Gov't after all. It would be too much to ask to ship something and not take 3 weeks ( and waiting) for it. :headbang:

A few months ago, I made my first purchase with them. I got the 08 silver quarters proof set and a simple mint bag for hauling change.

I believe it took about a month to receive. They are not fast, lets just put it that way.

Thanks Vess1, It is just that I am planning on giving some the coins to my niece and nephew for Christmas present. It looks like I need to look at Plan B.

to the Us Mint anything is not lost till 30 day's have passed. you will get coin's or money back. I had almost the same thing happen in 2006.

*but I know that don't help with your Xmas gifts.

You just have to be patient. The US Mint is generally reliable, if slow. Many online coin dealers are equally slow in filling orders. In general, the entire business side of coin collecting is badly run.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have no choice but to wait. Happy Holidays to all of you.
