Am I upset because I think folks wont buy from me now? Are you kidding? LOL, The folks that are in that league dont even know I exist !! No, I guess what irked me was the comment about Indians and Lincolns, because we pretty much know who she means.... Believe me, I would rather have that little eagle sticker than a CAC on my Indians ANY day !! Or the opinion of the cent guru in Virginia.
Ah AJ, I guess I just read from your original post that you were spitting mad and I merely wanted you to have a soothing tonic and perspective . You see, when I saw these words, I just wanted you to take a deep breath: :loud: "...never heard such...." "....disturbing at best...." "I take offense...." "....sentence that irks me...." ".....hear some schmuch" "Give me a freakin break...." "....got my irk on..." "Huff and puff" Realize, I'm pulling your chain!
LMAO !!!! That cheered me up !! Thanks !! EDIT: To add, that report stirred things up so much on the PCGS boards, 2 entire threads got whacked !!
There is something here for every person on the forum,as well as the writer of the article. Very much including myself! ================== author unknown, Desirada================= Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are the vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter, for there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself. =================================================== and my own modification: If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter, for there will always be greater collections and lesser collections than your. Laura is far my superior in numismatic skill, but she is toeing the CAC company line as a CAC marketer herself. Her skill in finding quality coins is prodigious and it makes sense that her buyers should take her advice. However not everyone is in need of additional opinions regarding a coin and for those people (of which a number of dealers fall) may not agree with her opinion. But what honest coin collector doesn't want to have full confidence that they are buying a quality piece? And in light of that I see very little downside to CAC. It is simply a very highly respected additional opinion on the coin's quality and one that is cheaply obtained. If a collector is not themselves a master of the series they collect then the CAC sticker should be viewed as a valuable verification of the quality of the piece.
Exactly what I was going to ask you tomorrow... Regardless of their stake in CAC, is the quality actually there? Are the coins truely exceptional? Enquiring newbies want to know.
I bought a coin in the open section a NGC-66 CAC stickered FB Merc. , the pics weren't the best so I figured if CAC approved it it would be fine , when I got it it was barely FB and had lousy eye apeal , Three weeks ago I was arguing CAC was good for sight unseen buying , now that sticker doesn't mean squat to me , why should it . rzage
Thank you Doug! I wanted to say that, but I was afraid you or another Mod would put me on the bad guy list if I did.
This makes me think of only one fraud but it's not CAC. Admin. Is it ok here to call any member or any company a fraud on this site? I don't wish to break any rules but if it's ok to do so I have a few things to say.
I think the one thing that stuck out in my mind was that she alludes to certain dealers and coin doctors - why didn't she call them out by name? So basically all I can gather from the article is "CAC good - listen to me". I have heard all kinds of sales BS and that is what it sounds like to me. Oh well - I make my own mistakes and live and learn - at least I hope.
Well Larry I don't know quite how to answer that. I myself am well known for calling a spade a spade and I have even used the word fraud before. I guess what it comes down to is how you go about doing it. There have been many times that I have strongly disagreed with another member on this forum and I have no problem voicing my disagreement. But I stop short of calling anyone names or making personal attacks. And there have been many who have vehemently disagreed with me and voiced their opinions as well. But in pretty much every case it was kept civil and in good taste. I have no problem with that. I think the rules here are rather plain and easy to understand. And I think you are very intelligent man. Do I need to say more ? For whatever it is worth, CAC may be a lot of things. But it is definitely not fraud.
Being new to coin collecting, 2 years now, and not being a player for elite coins, heck $500.00 on a coin is a major transaction that takes some time and thought, I have read this thread and want to comment and ask a question though a bit off topic. I feel her comments are unprofessional and a bit disrespectful to most dealers especially to the ones that she mentioned but didn't mention. She may have a lot of resources and knowledge but not much tack. I don't think they are fraudulent but reputation means a lot in the business. If I ever was going to pony up they money and buy elite coins would I buy from her? Probably not, for me I have to have some trust and a connection with the dealer. Her comments make it so I wouldn't do business with her. Some have mentioned that they feel that the coin market is going to make a correction, seems to be the PC way of saying crash, I have felt that their is a so called bubble but have not been in the market to buy coins. Now that I am and am wanting to expand my collection what happened the last few times that the market spiked?
Ok, I'll be nice. I won't call any members a fraud. I'll look for a nice Harry Truman way of getting my point across.
