The only set avaible now is the O8-08-08 two half ounce gold coins in the hardwood box. It contains 1/2 oz Unc Buffalo and a 1/2 oz liberty unc.
I had checked on the two 1/2oz proofs in the Buffalo style on the 12/9/08 and they said no problemo. Now it is not in stock so those are gone for sure. I had placed the order the first week in December.
They have about 3K of the BA4 sets in stock. Last of the buffalo and fractional. Not such a good deal as the proof coins but that is what is left.

I was given that by the mint when I asked how many were left so I could decide if I wanted to purchase the set in time to have a valid order. It was just over 3K units as of this morning.
Of course they also told me there was no problem with my order for two 1/2 oz PF buffallo coins.

    Buffalos 1/2 oz

I placed my order on 12/6 , it showed shipping 12/21.
I then could not get a computer check for validation. I called on 12/9 and they indicated they had the coins and all would be shipped. Today 12/16 I received an email saying they ran out and were sorry for the inconvenience.
I decided to purchase something else from the 2008 gold that was left.
This is not the fault of the ladies on the phones !
This is not giving them updated information in a timely manner. I doubt sometimes if they have a real business plan.
They remind me when Renault and Peugot brought their cars to the USA. They had cars for sale, they did not merchandise their product.

    Double Prosperity Set

I drove into Denver yesterday to buy myself a Christmas gift from the US Mint gift shop and I saw the Double Prosperity Set in the display case. It is a real nice set so I decide to buy it and a couple other items for Christmas gifts. After looking in the drawer, the clerks said they would have to go into the back room for the set. One of the clerks then returns and says that the set has been pulled by the US Mint and they would not sell it to me. They then pull the set from the display case. I decided to leave without buying anything else on my list. I then get home and check the US Mint website and the set is still available.

Now I have to decide to:

    A) Buy the set from the website
    B) Return and ask to see the manager at the gift shop about the set
    C) Just boycott the US Mint gift shop completely and buy a nice classic double eagle gold coin with my $1100.

    What would you suggest?

As you saw Nighthawk.... the Prosperity set is a very stunning set... one that I would love to own. You could always buy a classic double eagle coin anytime, but I would bet that the Prosperity set may become difficult to find. I am not aware of any production numbers out there on this set although I have heard of some numbers thrown around.... and they were rather small. Just go ahead and get it on the mints web site and don't even mess around in the store. There has been so much change at the mint in the past few months that no one knows whats coming or going.
