I bought some coins and this two coins came as added bonus: These two coins are from Honan, currently known as Henan. They are quite massive as they are 4cm in diameter and weighing at 20grams easily. Probably the largest Asian copper coin that I have in my collection. Here is an image comparison: If I am not wrong, the size of the Aussie 5 cent coin is about the same as a Lincoln cent. The 1931 100 cash coin in particular seems to be relatively uncommon as seen here: http://cgi.ebay.com/China-Republic-...66741287QQihZ002QQcategoryZ4368QQcmdZViewItem Although it wasn't sold, the asking price is kinda surprising. Is the price somewhere around there? Tried looking everywhere else but so far not successful. Anyone else collects coins of this type?
Years ago I could find coins like that in so called "junk boxes" of coins for 10¢-25¢ each. Good luck now, the best I can come up with are Tang dynasty coins for 25¢. I am avidly collecting coins from the Kiangsi-Jiangxi province, I have up to the 100 cash coins from the 1850's Nanchang mint. Some of these coins are now recognised as quite rare, particularly the large denominations and some of the later Republican era 10 cash coins in copper with different varieties.
Just wait scottishmoney, I should have a bunch of Chinese coins from that era coming to me soon It's one of those mysterious lot so it will keep me busy for a while. JCunha, thanks for your concern. There is not much loss for me as these coins are bonus to me. So whether they are counterfeit, tokens or not, they are still worth some metal scrap value as I didn't take much account of the value of them. Would be awesome if they happened to be rather scarce but otherwise, I'm still happy with what I got.
Very cool, the second one is in a different style from what I'm used to. Wish I could get lots like that!
Here's another bunch of Chinese cash that I bought at a really absurd price - turns out that the postage came out to be more than the lot itself! There are some absurd coins in the lot which I'll catalog them when I have time. Edit: There are some Malaya coins in that lot as well as well as a few random Japanese cash coins.
