    Hi All,

I have just found this coin which is hammered and looks to be maybe Egyptian. I thought at first that I had found a groat but after cleaning the mud off it realised that it wasn't.

Thanks in advance for your help,

If you have the krause, siegle XIX and XX, search in the ottoman section. ;)

Without going into research mode, it is most certainly islamic...Ottoman Qirsh...I think it was minted under Mahmud II. I cant see the date clearly but I believe it is around 1223 AH

Thanks for your help. Must get a copy of Krause. I normally only find English hammered and have several books to identify them with.
I did think Islamic at first but couldn't find anything similar when I googled it.

    Egypt, Mahmud II 1223 yr 21(1827) 1 Qirsh. KM#181 Billon $10 G $20 VG
Not hammered, a milled coin that's had a tough life :)

I agree that it's Egypt, Mahmud II, 1 Qirsh, but the year of reign looks to me as 27, therefore the coin dates 1833 AD.
