Spider...do you ever proof read your posts? Maybe, its because I had English teachers that ripped me for spelling, capitalization and all...but if you ever get into the business world, just remember people will judge you simply by how you communicate e-mails, drafts and letters.

Just a suggestion for your future...

I think they should take all USA Presidents off of the coinage, leaving only Lincoln and Washington on the coins. They were far more important and had a lasting effect on USA history, but I think this not the same for Kennedy or Roosevelt, whom had an immediate effect, but not an effect that last 150 years later.

I wonder that especially Kennedy would have ever been on a coin save the circumstances of his demise?

I agree. I do like the reverse of the dime though. I vote for a change in the half dollar though.

Kind of tough to tell when it hasn't been 150 years yet :p

Though I don't agree with some of their politics, each president on our coinage has had a major impact on the history and direction of the USA. I grew up with great presidents on my money and like them there.

Now, if people start talking about putting Tricky Dick, Slick Willie, or Dubyah on our currency, after hurling my latest meal, I'd be writing/berating my senators.

I voted half, but dime would be my next choice.

I am pretty sure I've read somewhere that after finishing with the State Quarters the mint will start producing Presidential Quarters? All the presidents, one by one...

Spider, btw, it would be good to include "none of the above" in your poll...

    Dump The Penny

Screw the Copper and Zinc Producers and halt production of the penny.

It is a big waste of time for the retailer, the banker and the individual.

Another option would be to downsize the penny....It would definitely cut production costs and increase income for the mint. So many other counties have smaller coins...

Stop making dollar bills as well. Who cares if consumers don't like the SBA or Sac Dollar. If we stopped issuing one dollar notes, people would be forced to use the coins.

i think that they should go back to images of liberty, stop putting "real people" on coins...

I think that the coinage from 1908-1946 ( aprox ) was the golden age of us coinage...
the mercury dime, walking liberty, peace dollar, buffalo nickel, standing liberty quarter... all works of art to me.

not that i don't have a soft spot for jefferson nickels and roosevelt dimes, because i do.. but...

    sigh...

    :)

They all need to be changed, go back to the time when artists designed the portraits instead of computers. Get rid of the incredibly UGLY spaghetti hair, uninspiring portraits, flat relief. All these changes might be good for saving money producing the coins, but they are looking more and more like the play money parodies of my youth (1950's).

Teddy Roosevelt must be spinning in his grave!

    P.S. - I voted for the dime.

I completely agree with cdb1950. The renditions of today's coins look like the plastic toy coins I used to play storekeeper with as a child.

The problem is, no matter what they chnage it to, it will still be crap. It is the coining/design techniques - not so much the designs themselves - that are bad. I still say, for example, that an original Jeff Nickel is a nice deign (artistically). The Mint has ruined it with the spaghetti hair and flat relief.

Not planned for the quarters. The bill in congress is for presidential Dollar coins.
