I am new at coining I love it I'm into it to find the rare domestics.im also hoping the odds are better than other things that I'll hit the big one and get some money for a small piece of land in the mountains where I'm from I'm stuck in a city blahhh I have really good luck So I have to ask I know the story behind close and wide A M s of the 90s pennies Um if I have a 1984 with a touching am buisness coin technically it's a close A M Would it be considered a touching AM. Rarity or just a error coin?
@Bertcap welcome to CT. We all would like to find rare coins, but, alas, that's why they are rare... Google 1984 cent (or penny) and see if the image of the "common" coin has the touching AM. Post us a picture here. What mountains are you from, I'm from the Appalachians, and what city are you in now?
You would have to to find error worth a lot of money. Please don't count on becoming rich by finding the holy grail of errors, cause it isn't likely to happen, but good luck.
Look for error coins if you enjoy it, but don't count on making money at it. While it is possible you could probably make more money picking aluminum cans to sell for scrap. As already stated rare coins are valuable because they are rare, if they were easy to find in circulation they would have no value. Before going any farther, study up on the minting process, learn what to look for, and remember every coin with some little abnormality is not going to be valuable. Give it a try, and see if you like it.
You mentioned "really good luck" in your thread. You will need more than luck to find anything worth acreage in the mountains. A guiding hand(s) would be of more help. IMO. Welcome aboard the CT Train. Enjoy the ride.
Search Sacajawea dollars for a mule. The coin has the obverse of a State Quarter and the reverse of the Sac dollar. That find might buy you a small parcel of land.
Thank you I'm from the Cascade mountains in Washington. Marblemount. I am currently near L.A. California. A fish out of water.
These pics really make the coin rough looking A person on here has a 84 also a nice copper color this one is dark maybe red too.
These pics suck the coin is actually real nice smooth and the legs are like reg am the a kinda pushing below the m leg and touching Why these pics make it look so bad I don't know.I have noticed coins have some mystery in that sorta way . I post a 99 the rim and front are great the back looks like a bad Thanksgiving in New England .like that . People saying on here it's scratches. Noo it's all neatly built up stamps etc under 8 x mag it's really something to behold .I'm a abstract artist old school born ability and I'm impressed with the 3 d effect a loop can bring out .the coin has hidden stuff under the scruff. Looking reverse.maybe dimes or a older coin .I am prone to create intricate things though Babble Thank you for the welcome Peace to all
Rare and error are not mutually exclusive terms in coin collecting. You can have a rare error and a common error, but really these 'close' or 'wide' AMs are not an 'error'. They are 'varieties'. An error is literally an accident during production that puts a coin outside the designed production parameters. A die variety (which these are) is something done purposely by Mint staff for certain reasons (ie use the proof dies for business strikes for cost savings, etc) and the minted coin is still within accepted production design parameters. As for whether the 84 Lincoln close AM is a rare variety, I don't know as I don't follow these. Good luck.
The problem I have is the photos of this coin do not allow me to have a clear enough picture of the issue you would like confirmed or commented on. Courtesy of @Mountain Man with permission.
Just a normal 1984 D cent. It has the normal, and only type reverse for the year. All cents had the "wide AM" reverse through 1991. Yours has a small plating bubble on the left foot of the M, making the space look narrower.
Yes this coin could use a professional cleaning is got a bit of lunch on it or? I'm not even going there. I LL tell you strait up . I thought coining was a better odds for hitting a Payday .I know I'm seeing the cool draw.but I'm retired going nuts no pension to occupy.i built people's houses ALONE FOR years..
