I'm leaning towards VAM-19 due to the clash in the denticles below the date. I'm not sure if the other diagnostics match though. What do you think? I was also intrigued by a note in my Morgan guide that mentions there are known 87/6 varieties for the Philadelphia & Denver mints, but none have *yet* been idnetified although they very likely are out there waiting to be found. Despite a close examination of the 7 here, I'm sure that this isn't a pioneer piece for that variety. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1887-S_VAM-19 Included is a closeup of Lady Liberty's nostril, which supposedly has some die chips.
Sorry, brainslip. That year has an overdate variety known at both the Philadelphia and *New Orleans* mint. Since the Denver mint didn't start operation until 1905, you are, of course, correct.
That seems likely. Not sure if the mintmark is a match though. And mine appears to have had a bump on the 1.
The 2nd 8 has something odd going on to the right of the center. What would cause that? There's an odd die clash above the 2nd "U" in unUm: and a die chip on the 1st U in plUribus:
