These were posted on another forum and I thought I would pass them along as they are, IMO, very neat. Its interesting to see these coins as they were found:

First one is a hoard of Greek coins found in two old jars:

Two Jars of Alexander the Great Tetradrachms, each Jar has around 500 coins, some of the coins would be:

Demetrios I Poliorketes Tetradrachm 1 coin
    Antigonos II Gonatas 1 coin
    Lysimachos 2 coins
Seleukos I 3 coins Elephant type
    Seleukos II 7
the rest are all Alexander the Great coins.

Thanks to Salem Alshdaifat for posting these

    here is another hoard found:

Large hoard of Athenian silver tetradrachms buried in a sack. Fourty-six coins were removed separately but most of them were lifted in a concreted mass weighing 6,280 grams. About 400 Athenian tetradrachms in total recovered in Greece by excavators with the American School of Classical Studies

And just think... someday in the far distant future someone will be digging up a mass of State quarters in the same condition. ;)

Now that's gonna take a bit of cleaning! It's amazing that we can get such nice looking coins out of that kind of mess!

Particularly for the six or so figures one would have to pay for it!

I was thinking more like the average uncleaned price of a buck or two per. Its only fair as I will be doing all the work cleaning them!! ;)

From what I understand from another forum, Salem was able to purchase the two jars of coins. The price of admission...a decadrachm!
