As some of you may know, I love history. I have been looking to collect coins from the third reich era of Germany because I find that time in history quite amazing. Another era I find amazing is the Soviet era. Does anyone know of any websites or books out there that are specific to collecting Russian coins from 1918-1991? I would like to look into these as well.
Don't know of any books beyond the general Krause reference. Love the series though, I'd like to do a type set of them some day. Here's the one I have so far:
Then there are a couple of us here on the forum that have actually used Soviet coins in commerce. Somewhere in all my sundry stuff I have a bag full of USSR coins that I saved from circulation. Most prized in that bag are the vaunted 2 kopek coins - hoarded and hard to find - because they were the price of a public telephone call.
CamaroDMD, is my site not good enough for you? http://www.gxseries.com/numis/numis_index.htm Check these links out: Soviet Union year set (1921 - 1957) Soviet Union year set (1961 - 1992) Soviet Ni-cupro commemorative coins (1965-1991) And of course if you are ambitious, you can try to go for the precious metal coins as well: Soviet Silver commemorative coins 1988 - 1991 (in original box + certificate)
Awesome! I have only 1 CCCP coin, 1Rouble with a Lady outstreching her hands on the obv side. Thx for sharing :thumb:
Btw the double headed phoenix as posted here http://www.gxseries.com/numis/rus_imperial/cu_group_1700_1801.htm are also found on austria, poland, montenegro and russia coins... its very confusing at times to know where the coins come from .. irrespective i love them
I like all the Soviet coinage and a lot of it is really tough especially in unc. The government discouraged coin collecting and almost all of the few collectors were primarily interested in czarist and older coinage.
I've just added a nice 1924 3 kopek in my collection. The other coins can be real challenge to obtain. For example, one of the key date I have is the 1935 old type 5 kopek. Try and look up the internet for one - prices are totally outrageous. http://www.molotok.ru/search.php?st...v=0&personal_rec=0&from_showcat=1&country=168
