    Hi everyone.

My mother left me a whole box full of coins and there is on in there from 1797, I have scanned it in, see picture below.

It is a very thin coin, about 1cm big and silverry witha brown tinge, photo is not a good indication of the colour!

it has what looks like the following inscription:

    car th p b r h j b c a

any pointers would be much appreciated! I have tried searching but I'm not sure what I'm looking for, thanks in advance.

It looks a lot like Bavarian (one of the German states) thaler of Charles Theodore (aka Carolus or Karl).

    wow, thanks notoco, very interesting!

Do you think it would be worth getting it valued - if it is worth being valued that is, I have no idea about coins as I'm new to all this :p

    thanks for the advice!

From the size, I'm guessing 3 or 6 kruezer. I don't have a 1700s catalogue, but I'd probably guess a value of $2-3 since it's probably a common date, and it is relatively low grade, and damaged (both scratch on head, and cleaning).

I would agree with ccgnum on the value - it is a very battered coin. I would try to find out its value in your place, by looking it up in a catalogue in a library, or asking a local coin dealer (they usually have a good collection of books) rather than sending it to a grading company or anything like that.
