Does anyone know if the dye caused this coin to be like this. It’s kinda fascinating

The US Mint does not use DYE on coins. Welcome to CT.

No dye involved, but metals can tone and discolor depending on their environment.

Hi, Sabrina! First, you need to work on taking full images of each coin, cropping out the unnecessary background and then resizing each image before you post it.

Be aware that the 2000 Sac dollar, being the first of this design and composition, was plagued with discoloration problems because of an improper rinse. Those coins took on a "puke" brownish-green color, but this is not what you have. Your coin has simply discolored due to environmental conditions.

Thank you guys, I’m a big fan of learning new things, and this is a new unexpected hobby so rinse not dye...check. How would I go about distinguishing the difference between a mint error and a post mint error??

The number of ways a Mint error can occur is finite. There are thousands upon thousands of ways that a coin can be damaged (PMD) while in circulation. Once you learn how coins are made, common sense kicks in and helps you to understand what is and isn't possible during design and production.

Can I ask why you are interested in errors?

errors are unique and they stand outside of the norm and are quite frankly just more interesting to me....
