Coin shops making sets?

So I went into a coin shop in my city for some plastic cases for some coins and there were a few guys set up like a production line. One was cutting paper that looked to me as covers for mint sets, another was placing the papers in large plastic cases setting cardboard inserts in next then another was placing coins in then putting another paper over that and finally putting another plastic piece on the back and sealing with some weird looking machine and plastic. So my question is do coin shops make their own coin sets to sell?

Aftermarket sets are very common and have been around forever.

    Yep.
Look at all of the 20th century year sets in Capital Plastic holders.

My neighborhood coin store doesn't package their own sets often, but when they do they put together some truly outstanding type sets.

I make my own sets (5 and 6) for our granddaughters and do my very best to use AU coins or better. Our way of helping them in their future needs such as college, first auto, weddings so forth and so on. Our local numismatist advised us on the best approach. He is also our CPA-PA and my wife's brother, nice huh...

Someone should set up a procedure for all of us to be able to put together sets of coins for children, grandchildren and others to keep for posterity.

Here here, I agree Dutch. Fortunately for us my brother-in-law the numismatist seals our coins and sets so we have no hands on the coins unless you break the seal, which I have done, duh. You should make a post with reference to coin set procedure, believe me, there are plenty of knowledgeable CT collectors that will be happy and willing to help including myself. Best of luck. Thanks, I'm sure that if I seriously wanted to start creating sets, I could manage with just a few supplies. Certainly I'd need some help, but I could manage.

That is exactly how I started Dutch. I got a little help when I needed it which is not often because it is really not that hard to start. Just be careful what type of holders you buy some are very flimsy and cheap. Stay away from Made in C.... Happy set building.

Thanks. I'm not just real sure if I want to undertake the effort just now, but we'll see.

Doesn't that take away from the sets that the mint is selling as authentic from the mint

When I worked in a shop if we broke up a set we stored the OGP and then in the future if someone requested a set in the OGP, we would acquire the coins, pull the OGP out of storage and assemble the set they wanted
