Hi, I got this coin in my collection, but I do not collect US coins. I have no idea if it's real or counterfeit. What do you think. The Color is like the second image. The Diameter is 21mm. PS: I'm not planning on to sell or trade this coin.
The coin looks genuine to me. I don't see any of the common counterfeit indicators (e.g., tool marks). The coin is circulated; counterfeit Indian gold coins did not generally circulate (because the vast majority of them were made long after the coins left circulation). Also, I see you are in Europe. Lots of US gold coins were sent to Europe after the US Mint stopped producing gold coins. It is possible that your coin was one of the coins sent to Europe then. That said, there are some very, very good counterfeit Indian gold coins. I recommend you take it to a knowledgeable coin dealer who can authenticate the coin. One quick test you can do yourself is to place the coin on a flat surface (e.g., a tabletop). If the coin is cupped and does not lie flat it is probably counterfeit.
I believe that it is genuine! Although circulated and having some bad rubs or scrapes on it, the minute (small, fine) details appear to be intact and complete. These are usually indistinct and smudgy looking on fake $2.50 and $5 Indians! Frank
