My mom has recently gotten into the habit of checking her pocket change for RADARs since she read something about them in the local paper. She also collects the state quarters and things like that. I'm not a collector, but I've been reading the forums here to help her out and told her about star notes and low serial numbers and she's been looking for those as well. For Christmas, I want to give her a stack of 100 $1 bills and slip a RADAR in there so she can get excited that she found one. Do most coin collecting shops sell those? I'd also like to get her a book about collecting, but most seem to be aimed toward advanced collectors. I was looking for something more along the lines of what to look for in your modern pocket change. She's not good at using the computer so a book that she could reference and learn from would be great (paper or coin currency). Any other ideas or book suggestions? She's very hard to shop for.
Carolo, Loading the deck may have the reverse effect and she may very well suspect your intentions. If it is a radar you want to give her to sparak her interest, then by all means giver her a radar and a book about not only small size notes but Large Size as well. Go to amazon and search for Books on US Paper Money, anything you pick will be more than what she has now! Goggle "Heritage Auctions" and David Lawerence Rare Coins... look for Fancy Serial Number Notes..there you will find your radar. Pay a $100 for a quality note instead of a hundred notes of low quality! Good luck..:high5: RickieB Right On Brother..Rock on! RickieB
Hi Carolo and welcome to CoinTalk, now I second what Rickie says if you can afford the $100 then get her a decent note, have a look at Rickies collection to get some ideas of what is out there :thumb:
I agree with both of you! Also, you can sometimes buy a (CU) Crisp Uncirculated stack of 100 consecutive numbered $1 Bills on eBay that contains a Radar Note. If you get real lucky, you might find a stack that contains a Ladder Note. Frank P.S. Welcome to Coin Talk!
