Looks like a cast counterfeit to me. Notice the huge raised blobs of metal on the obverse (side with 'USA').
It doesn't look good to me and looks possibly cast. I don't want to look any closer. Good or bad I would never pay money for a Bar cent unless it was authenticated by a good TPG. Very best regards, collect89
I can't see the indicator on the bottom bar. Could be the condition of the coin - but I would stay away from it.
What is that indicator? I knew there was something (maybe a crack between bars) that is found on genuine coins but I cannot remember exactly what it is.
This is a coin you see counterfeited, so I'd beware. Don't have anything more than that....as this is far from my specialty.
On an authentic Bar cent there will be a horn protruding out of the 2nd bar on the bottom right hand side, directed at the 3rd bar down. There is often a die crack connecting the two middle bars together in the middle of the coin. This one does not appear to have either.
Cast copy for sure. Notice the metal that appears to be splashed over the obverse at roughly a 45 degree angle through US. Also there is usually a spike on the bottom far right of the second bar from the top (approx at 1:30). Also it appears that part of the S extends through the bottom of the U. You will not find that on a genuine example.
Looks fake to me. The serifs on the A should have 'rocker bottom' feet. A line drawn along the left hand edge of the lower serif of the S should intersect the left-hand serif of the U.
to Keegan, DO NOT listen to this insanity. Your coin has a zero percent chance of being authentic. This user obviously does not know colonials. Trust me, your coin is fake. Don't waste your money getting it slabbed.
Isaiah's right. This coin is definitely a cast copy. It's cool looking, but nothing more than that. Sending it to a TPG is just a waste of money. Exactly.
