Interesting coin, what's with the Billy Idol lip and grafted nose? She must have taken a hit, not my series at all as you can probably tell!
really need better pictures that aren't so grainy. impossible to really see what's happening here. can be just blur, overmagnification and light.
Yes, I agree, looks fake. Her eye and the Liberty head band don't look right to me at all, and the more I look at it, the worst it appears!
Yeah, I'm trying to determine if that's a bagmark hit or something that happened to the die pre-strike (or both). This year has an O/S variety that can be quite hard to diagnose, especially if there's a ding in that area. I'll try to get some additional pics when I find where my 3 year old has hidden my loupe again.
Looks normal and the mintark has taken a hit that has slighly flattened the lower half and pushed some metal from the right hand side into the opening in the O. (lower and right side as taken from the orientation of the last two images. The other images are too small and out of focus to tell anything.)
Trying out my new endoscope. It didn't come with any software, and the only way I could figure out how to pull up the input was to have a Zoom meeting with myself and do screenshots. The "webcam" may be capable of higher resolution - it was billed as a 5MP scope. Anyway, here are closeups of the date. It's through mylar, so there is some minor distortion, but I'm hoping this should be enough to nail down the VAM.
And here's some closeups on the mintmark. Are there any other telltales I should examine for the 1882 O varieties?
It is a normal 1882o, with hits on it. Don’t know what all the hoopla is about it. It is a garden variety Morgan.
You have doubling all the way around the left side of the 2nd 8, around the top of the 2, and at the lower serif of the 2. The mint mark is normal, but might be tilted a little to the left (very hard to gauge when the photos are rotated).
