Yes, it’s a known issue. And safe to ignore.

Basically companies like Microsoft and Apple are now running “software certification programs” where developers have to have their code validated to avoid such warnings.
This costs money, and for many free independent projects means a lot of money. That’s why this happens.

Besides being free, this project is open source. This means the code is public and anybody can check it. So it’s completely safe to ignore as if there was something fishy it would have been discovered and reported already.

    Hi Goossen,
After a few minutes using the Open Numismat software, I'm impressed. Even the manual is great, easy to use, and very useful. Unusual for any software, and this is free!
    Thanks for the rec.

Is it customizable if you want to add or delete fields? For a non-techie. I can't do code or anything like that!

One thing the manual didn't really help me with is what the "catalog" tab is for. Catalog of what exactly? The "collection" tab is what I own. So is the catalog for "wants" maybe?

Oh, also, any idea why it says "demo - OpenNumismat"? Is this just a demo and if I like it I need to buy something?

    Thanks

    Hello,
If you have some minutes to lose, I invite you to take a look at CollecOnline, a collection management solution. You can organize you collection, share yours coins in public or keep it private, print catalogs, manage your purchase informations (seller, invoice, certificate of authenticity...)

    Glad you like it!
As long as you use the fields they have available you can add or remove them easily. What you cannot do is create a custom field, for example if you want a field called "my very specific field".
But you have plenty to choose from, and several free text notes as well. I personally haven't run into such situation.
You can have multiple tabs for example if you want to compare lists of coins, each tab can have its own filter and order. Sure you can divide in "have" vs "want" or really whatever you like. You can rename the tabs. The different statuses will also help you organise your wish list, sales, owned, etc.
No. "demo" is just the name of the database that comes by default. You can edit that one and use or you can create a new one. I created a new one for me. This is how my interface looks. You see, in the menu "File > New..." you can create a new database. The 4 last entries in the File menu are databases which I've created.

Hope it makes sense. Feel free to reach out if you need help configuring something.

Thanks a ton for all your help. I need to play with it a lot more before I pelt you with questions! I may figure a lot out on my own.
One thing though: when you say you can add fields, isn't that creating a custom field? I'm not clear on this point.
    Thanks.

I don't remember anymore if all fields are added by default when you install it, because I removed some. You can select the fields you want to use in two places:
    1. Menu "List > Select columns..." (this applies to the list of coins)
    2. Settings > Fields (this applies to the coin details)
That's what I meant by "add/remove" fields. Apologies for the lack of clarity.

I see. So I can hide fields I don't want, or add them back, but I can't INVENT a NEW field that isn't already there.
So I guess I can't have TWO "condition" fields. I like to enter the condition the seller said the coin was and my opinion. But I guess I could enter one of those in the "features" field maybe.

Another question: when adding a coin, there is a field and drop down box for "status", such as "owned" or "ordered", etc. What is "demo" and "pass" in that field?

    Thanks

    Exactly
In the "Market - Buy" section there is an "Info" field which would be my personal preference.
I guess demo is if you want to play around? And "pass" I have no idea, maybe a coin you don't want anymore?
You can disable the ones you don't use under Settings.

CollectiveCoin.com is good for cataloging your collection (photos and descriptions). You can also view others' collections and buy/sell. I know that @lordmarcovan uses the website, and I will once my collection gets bigger.

CollectiveCoin is indeed a great free site for cataloging your collection, and I've been an enthusiastic user, but I've noticed one mildly alarming thing in recent months, since the site changed owners... it has gotten excruciatingly slow to load on the initial click-in. I suspect their server(s) must be overburdened.

    Otherwise, it's still great.

Here is my collection. Click the link and see how long it takes to load. Just when you're about to give up on the resulting blank page, it'll probably load.

Can't complain too much, since it's a free site, and ad-free, too.

Heritage.com used to have a feature called "My Collection", which also served as a free online database. I haven't tried that in quite some time, but I think it probably still exists in some form. It had some useful features for US coin collectors.

I should probably examine this software @goossen has been discussing...

I am just starting to scope out a feature set that collectors would like to see. The first rev of a beta site is at https://icollect.money I've been using the site to manage our house collection for several months and have now opened it up to others (I'm an old software dev geek).

If you want to help prioritize features that you would like to see added let me know. I put a menu item to add a feature request and vote on others features.

here are examples from the current beta:

Our house collection of misc odds and ends: http://icollect.money/share/7ABD8BDB32685BB838506FE89E75B752

A set of draped bust cents I'm building: http://icollect.money/share/29EC58A47DCBE91A59F752C851779F9E

A new 1823 piece we recently added: http://icollect.money/share/CBC8363FF4AEC733DC18E2F6088E05C4

would love to have others ideas to make it beneficial to the community. I'm just starting to get into ancients so I'm very interested in hearing those features personally. Currency too.

If you have ideas let me know and I'll try to add them.

and remember... like Google always says, it's just a beta...
