    This sestertius was minted between December 166 and December 167 under the joint rule of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, which explains both seated on the reverse and consistent with the Congiarium probably held to celebrate the victory of Romans over the Parthians in 165-166:

    Sestertius, Rome, December 166 - Summer 167 AD
    29.5 x 31 mm, 26.89 g
    RIC III Marcus Aurelius 914; Banti 41;

    Ob.: M AVREL ANTONINVS AVG ARMENI(ACVS P M) Head of Marcus Aurelius, laureate, right
    Rev: CONG AVG III TR POT XX IMP III COS III S-C Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus togate, seated to l. on curule chairs on platform, each extending right hand; behind them, an official standing left; in front of them, attendant standing left, holding coin-scoop in right hand; below platform, citizen climbing steps
