I have not even been here 5 years. When I receive the Coin Talk updates daily , I just took for granted that they contained new material. I learn something new every day here. Is this some type of joke, or did this David leave this world? I never knew ketchup cleaned coppers , and frankly I think the other member was correct that ketchup has much better uses then cleaning coins. Dillan
Ketchup is actually an acid, they think they're cleaning the coin, but it's actually damage. I did it as a kid, but know better now. There are still idiots on line that tout this as cleaning.
Yes I am aware of this , and it is by no means recommended to clean coins by any method especially acids like ketchup, Tabasco sauce and the likes. Maybe if a coin is caked with mud, a little mild dish soap and water may help, but only on those that are beyond collectable condition. If these are already damaged beyond saving, it may be fun to experiment with different methods. Best to leave as they are until a person knows that the coin is basically garbage. Dillan
Amen, brother! I grew up in South Jersey and putting anything but mustard on a hot dog OR hamburger is absolute sacrilege!
